Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: McKennie, Pulisic, and more

Juventus snapped its five-match winless run in its return to Serie A play on Sunday with Weston McKennie playing a key role in a shutout victory over Bologna.

McKennie assisted on Juventus’ second goal in a 3-0 home victory, easing some pressure off manager Massimiliano Allegri ahead of the resumption of UEFA Champions League action this week. The 24-year-old McKennie delivered a dangerous cross into the Bologna box in the 59th minute, allowing Dusan Vlahovic the opportunity to head home.

McKennie also won three duels, made four recoveries, and registered one shot on goal in his 60-minute performance at the Allianz Stadium. Juventus’ third victory through eight league matches now has it sitting in seventh place ahead of Wednesday’s UCL showdown with Israeli side Maccabi Haifa.

In England, Christian Pulisic came off the bench to help set up Chelsea’s winning goal against Crystal Palace. Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams both started in Leeds United’s goal-less draw with Aston Villa.

In Germany, Joe Scally and Borussia Moenchengladbach endured a tough afternoon after losing 5-1 to Werder Bremen. Julian Green scored his second league goal of the 2. Bundesliga campaign.

In France, Folarin Balogun scored his sixth Ligue 1 goal of the season in Stade Reims’ 2-2 draw with Troyes. Tim Weah returned to Lille’s squad on Saturday, but did not appear in a loss at Lorient.
