Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Robinson, Horvath, and more

Antonee Robinson made his long-awaited return for English Premier League side Fulham on Sunday and picked up where he left off as Marco Silva’s starting left back.

Fulham fell 3-1 to London rivals West Ham United, but Robinson logged 90 minutes in his first appearance in over one month. The 25-year-old led all players with the most duels won (6), most fouls drawn (2), and most tackles completed (2), finishing as Fulham’s best defender on the afternoon. Robinson went toe-to-toe with Hammers winger Jarrod Bowen for the entire match, limiting Bowen to only two shots on goal and zero goals from open play.

Robinson’s return to action is a major boost for Silva and the Fulham backline with the schedule continuing to be busy this fall. Fulham next hosts AFC Bournemouth on Oct. 15 before facing Aston Villa, Leeds United, and Everton later this month.

Elsewhere in England, Ethan Horvath posted a three-save shutout for Luton Town in a scoreless draw with West Bromwich Albion. Christian Pulisic scored his first Premier League goal of the season for Chelsea. Josh Sargent continued his impressive goalscoring run with Norwich City. Auston Trusty scored his first two Birmingham City goals in a 3-0 win over Bristol City.

In Germany, Joe Scally started for Borussia Moenchengladbach in a 5-2 win over Cologne.

In Spain, Yunus Musah made his return to Valencia in a road victory over Osasuna.

In France, Tim Weah made his return to action for Lille following a lengthy injury spell. Folarin Balogun went the distance for Stade Reims in a scoreless draw with PSG.

Elsewhere, Ricardo Pepi scored twice for Dutch side FC Groningen, continuing his impressive start in the Netherlands. Alan Sonora also found the back of the net for Argentinian side Independiente. Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to the Celtic starting lineup in a road win over St. Johnstone.

  1. Pepi is scoring

I give GB credit for reaching out to the young man with belief in him rewarding, rewarding him with the opportunity in the last call ups because he had earned it throughout the qualifying cycle, and now he’s on a roll evidently

    He’s feeling it

  2. – I cannot see how Chris Richards can at this time stake a claim for a starting spot next month. Once again, zero minutes, this time against Leeds. It also seems on those sporadic occasions when he get a few minutes, there are not consequential, and not at CB.
    – However, CCV, McKenzie, EPB, Scally and Vines logged minutes. Here’s hoping that continues.
    – It was good to see Weah and A Robinson get some game time. Both have a few short weeks to pull it together.
    – All 3 keepers got a game this week, with Turner between the pipes for UEL.

    • I think with Richards it’s more his competition at CB. I’m guessing he’s still injured given he hasn’t dressed since the international break when he couldn’t participate due to injury. However, I couldn’t find where Palace or Vieira talked about him being injured. EPB is pretty mistake prone and was whistled for a penalty over the weekend and was taken off for another defender, CCV was also injured for last camp its hard to rate where Berhalter sees him compared to Richards, McKenzie is playing regularly but has had some mistakes for NT. That leaves the experienced but limited Long.

Good to see Musah get back as well.

      • We will miss Miles Robinson, but should feel somewhat fortunate Aaron Long is healthy. I still think CCV joins Richards in the CB pool. McKenzie didn’t impress during WCQ and EPB, as you say, needs some seasoning I suppose.

      • Berhalter obviously rates CCV above McKenzie and EPB since he was on the initial Sept. roster and they weren’t. What we don’t know is had he passed Long in Gregg’s mins after June.

  3. Finally, BA hit the slalom on his opps again. I know Leeds lost the match, but I haven’t seen him hit da slalom since ‘21 CR friendly. He took less physical damage as a RW, like in his 1st match. Captain Adams had a hell of match also; to leave with a loss will over shadow his excellent play. Less than 2 months away from the “Winter Cup!” Good health & productivity for the US players is what I hope keeps happening !
