Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Tillman, Pulisic, and more

Malik Tillman retained his spot in Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s squad on Wednesday night and played the hero in a needed bounce-back victory for Scottish club Rangers.

Tillman netted his third league goal of the season in Rangers’ 1-0 win over Hearts. The result kept Rangers seven points behind rivals and league-leaders Celtic, but overall was a huge performance following a weekend loss to St. Johnstone. Tillman arrived in the center of the Hearts box in the 66th minute, one-timing a pass from Borna Barasic into the back of the net. It was his fourth goal of the season in all competitions.

Rangers were able to hang on and claim three points in its penultimate match of the first half schedule. Tillman created the most chances (4) in the match and also won eight of his 13 duels from his attacking midfield position. Despite not being called up to the U.S. men’s national team World Cup roster, the 20-year-old still has a bright future for club and country.

In England, Christian Pulisic started in Chelsea’s EFL Cup loss at Manchester City.

In Germany, Joe Scally logged 80 minutes for Borussia Moenchengladbach while Gio Reyna appeared off the bench for Borussia Dortmund.

In Belgium, Mark McKenzie helped Genk defeat Westerlo in cup play. Bryan Reynolds logged 70 minutes off the bench.
