Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Booth, Reyna, and more

Eredivisie side FC Utrecht rebounded from a weekend loss by shutting out Excelsior on Wednesday as American attacker Taylor Booth made his 13th appearance for the club.

Booth played 79 minutes in a 1-0 home victory, continuing to fight for opportunities in the Dutch top-flight. The 21-year-old won four duels, created three shots, and drew three fouls from his right wing position, helping Michael Silberbauer’s squad move to seventh place in the league standings. Booth has continued to develop his game with FC Utrecht this season, totaling two goals and two assists so far. Up next is a tough road test at AZ Alkmaar before a home showdown with SC Heerenveen on Feb. 4. Continued improvement for FC Utrecht could see it sneak into the top-three race, especially with several top-half matches still on its calendar.

In Germany, Gio Reyna scored the game-winning goal for Borussia Dortmund in a road win over Mainz. It was Reyna’s second-consecutive match with the game winner.

Elsewhere in the Netherlands, Djordje Mihailovic scored his first Eredivisie goal in AZ Alkmaar’s romp over Vitesse Arnhem. Ricardo Pepi went the distance for FC Groningen, but the hosts fell 1-0 to Cambuur.

In Spain, Yunus Musah started for Valencia, but Gennaro Gattuso’s squad suffered Copa Del Rey elimination at the hands of Athletic Bilbao.
