For the second time in 2023, Celtic will be heading to Hampden Park with a chance to earn another domestic trophy.

Cameron Carter-Vickers logged 90 minutes as Celtic defeated Glasgow rivals Rangers 1-0 to book its place in May’s Scottish Cup Final vs. Inverness CT. Carter-Vickers and Celtic currently lead the Scottish Premiership table and have already defeated Rangers in this season’s edition of the Scottish League Cup.

Carter-Vickers continued alongside Carl Starfelt in Ange Postecoglou’s backline as Celtic’s unbeaten run continued. Fellow U.S. men’s national team player Malik Tillman started for Rangers, but was forced to leave the match before halftime due to an undetermined injury.

Jota’s 41st minute opening goal propelled Celtic in front as the league-leaders claimed another advantage over their local rivals. It was Jota’s 14th goal of the season across all competitions for Celtic.

Rangers tried to fight for an equalizer, but Celtic’s backline stood firm to book its return to Hampden Park. Carter-Vickers earned his 39th combined appearance of the season as Celtic’s quest for a domestic treble continued.

There is no status on whether or not Carter-Vickers will be available for the Cup Final later this spring. Carter-Vickers has been fighting a knee injury, a source close to the player confirmed to SBI, and might be rested for the remainder of the season ahead of surgery.

Celtic can clinch the Premiership title on May 7 with a road victory over Hearts ahead of its final head-to-head meeting with Rangers on May 14.

  1. Burying the lead โ€œCarter-Vickers has been fighting a knee injury and may be rested for the remainder of the season ahead of a summer surgery.โ€ Maybe not a huge thing with Robinson and Richards seemingly healthy but Ream left the field in the first half and CCV also injured CB depth continues to be an issue heading into NL Final Four.
