In the Serie A top-four race, two of the key chasers will square off this weekend with points at a premium.
Fifth-place AS Roma hosts fourth-place AC Milan in this weekend’s headlining showdown with both Italian clubs level on 56 points. The two clubs tied 2-2 back in January as an injury-time goal from Roma’s Tammy Abraham shared the spoils from the San Siro.
AC Milan advanced to the UEFA Champions League semifinals earlier this month while AS Roma punched its ticket into the Europa League Final Four. Rafael Leao and Paulo Dybala are the leading stars for both clubs as both forwards have 10+ goals apiece this season in Serie A play.
The English Premier League treks on this weekend with Manchester United hosting fifth place Aston Villa in the key match to watch. The Red Devils return to league play after drawing 2-2 with Tottenham on Thursday while Aston Villa defeated Fulham 1-0 on Tuesday. Unai Emery’s side visits Old Trafford on a ten-match unbeaten run, trailing the Red Devils by only five points.
MLS play continues this weekend with the top two Eastern Conference clubs squaring off from Foxborough. The New England Revolution welcomes FC Cincinnati to Gillette Stadium as both clubs sit on 20 points apiece. Both the Revs and FC Cincy advanced in U.S. Open Cup action this week and will be keen to stay atop the Supporters’ Shield rankings by weekend’s end.
In the Netherlands, Dutch giants Ajax face off with PSV in the KNVB Cup Final. PSV just recently earned a convincing 3-0 win over the defending league champions and is riding a 12-match unbeaten streak heading into this weekend. Both remain in the chase for the league title with Feyenoord leading by a fine margin, but will put that quest to the side in the latest derby encounter.
