Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: De La Torre, Musah and more

Both Valencia and Celta Vigo head into the final day of the La Liga season knowing victories on Sunday could help erase what has been an overall dismal campaign for each of them.

Yunus Musah and Luca De La Torre are both in the thick of the La Liga relegation scrap with six teams fighting to avoid being the third and final team demoted from the Spanish top flight. Musah and Valencia face a tough test against sixth place Real Betis, who cannot improve on its current standing in the league table. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder has only started two of his last five league appearances and only registered one minute off the bench in his last two appearances. Musah will be pushing to start with Valencia’s league status on the line.

De La Torre and Celta Vigo welcome La Liga champions Barcelona to Abanca-Baladios on Sunday, knowing a victory will clinch them league safety. Celta Vigo has only won one of its last seven league matches, with that coming against already-relegated Elche on April 26. The 25-year-old De La Torre has registered two assists in 27 appearances to date, being shuffled in-and-out of the starting lineup in recent weeks. De La Torre might join Musah on the move this summer, but ultimately will be ready to give his all to keep Celta Vigo in the top flight.

In Germany, George Bello and Arminia Bielefeld face third-tier side Wehen Wiesbaden in the first leg of their 2. Bundesliga promotion/relegation playoffs.

In the Netherlands, Taylor Booth and FC Utrecht take on Sparta Rotterdam in first leg play with a Europa Conference League Playoff spot at stake.

In France, Tim Weah and Erik Palmer-Brown go head-to-head in their Ligue 1 finales.

In Belgium, Mark McKenzie and Genk need to defeat Royal Antwerp to have any chance of capturing the Pro League title.
