Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: McKenzie, Balogun, and more

Belgian side Genk remains alive in the fight for the First Division A title this season and Mark McKenzie delivered his latest goalscoring performance in Sunday’s 1-1 home draw with Union St. Gilloise.

McKenzie scored his fourth goal in his past five appearances for Genk, continuing a career-best run of form in front of net. The U.S. men’s national team centerback has remained a stalwart in Genk’s backline, but his goalscoring run has helped McKenzie end his domestic season on a high note. McKenzie completed two tackles, won two duels, made two interceptions, and made eight recoveries. Genk remains three points back of leaders Royal Antwerp in the title race, but will face them and Club Brugge over the next two weeks to end the season.

In France, Folarin Balogun scored his 20th Ligue 1 goal of the season for Stade Reims. Tim Weah helped Lille to an important home victory over Marseille.

In England, Weston McKennie and Leeds United fell at West Ham United. Antonee Robinson and Fulham tied Crystal Palace.

In Spain, Yunus Musah came off the bench in Valencia’s impressive win over Real Madrid.

In Germany, Gio Reyna and Borussia Dortmund took a major step in edging Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title. John Brooks and Hoffenheim clinched Bundesliga safety after defeating Union Berlin.

Elsewhere, Ian Harkes scored once for Dundee United, but the Scottish Premiership side lost to Livingston. Matthew Hoppe appeared off the bench in Hibernian’s loss to Rangers. Ricardo Pepi went the distance for FC Groningen, but the relegated side lost 6-0 in Eredivisie play.
