NYCFC reveals stadium renderings ahead of 2027 debut

New York City FC released renderings of its soccer-specific stadium on Wednesday which is set to come to Willets Point in Queens in 2027.

The stadium is expected to hold a capacity of 25,000 fans and is privately financed at $780 million. NYCFC will fully finance the construction as part of a private-public partnership.

The overall project would include the city’s largest 100% affordable housing development in 40 years [estimated 2,500 units] amid pedestrian-friendly, 21st-century urban planning principles. It will also include over 40,000 square feet of public open space, a 650-seat school, a 250-key hotel, and ground-floor retail shops.

“From the beginning, New York City Football Club has understood the importance of strong communication and collaboration with mayor [Eric] Adams, councilmember Francisco Moya, borough president Richards, and the local Queens community as we move forward with plans for a privately financed soccer-specific stadium,” Marty Edelman, NYCFC’s vice chairman, said in a release.

“This continued investment in New York City will create a long-overdue home for our first team, and create a new neighborhood for Queens.”

The stadium itself will be constructed across the street from Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets. Citi Field has been used to host several NYCFC home matches, in addition to Yankee Stadium, and Red Bull Arena.

NYCFC’s stadium will be part of a broader waterfront project that will include 2,500 new affordable homes. The project is expected to generate $6.1 billion in economic impact over the next 30 years in New York City.

NYCFC won MLS Cup in 2021 before reaching the MLS Eastern Conference Final in 2022 before falling to the Philadelphia Union 3-0.
