Hoffenheim escaped relegation from the German Bundesliga and American defender John Brooks was a key reason for it.
Brooks’ impressive string of performances in May helped him earn Player of the Month honors at club level, Hoffenheim announced Thursday. The 30-year-old started in all four of Hoffenheim’s league matches in May, helping the club defeat Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt over that span.
Brooks joined Hoffenheim during the January transfer window and proceeded to log 15 league appearances for Pellegrino Matarazzo’s squad. The U.S. men’s national team centerback originally joined Portuguese club Benfica last summer, but only made three appearances during the first half of the season.
Hoffenheim finished 12th in the league standings on 36 points, three points clear of the relegation zone.
Brooks and Hoffenheim now enter the offseason before starting a new league campaign in August.
How nice to finally hear some good news on that front. I hope he himself is pleased to at least be at a place where he clearly is wanted and can fulfill a needed role and play regularly.
.
Leeds sure could have used him in that woeful back line. Ah well, too late now.
