Ethan Horvath praised as “good enough to play in Premier League”

Ethan Horvath’s club future remains uncertain with Nottingham Forest set to kick off its new English Premier League campaign in two weeks, but the support of the American goalkeeper remains very certain overall.

Horvath has been part of Forest’s preseason camp, featuring in friendlies against PSV and Leeds United as he continues through his individual preparations. The 28-year-old enjoyed a positive loan spell last season with Luton Town, claiming the No. 1 role for the Hatters and helping them earn promotion back to the English top-flight.

Horvath registered 20 clean sheets (second-most in EFL Championship) in 51 combined appearances for the Hatters, excelling under Rob Edwards during the second half of the season. However, Luton Town did not exercise its purchase option for Horvath this summer, leaving the U.S. men’s national team keeper in a tough position going forward.

Chris Cohen, a former assistant coach at Nottingham Forest, voiced his opinion on Horvath’s current situation, praising the veteran goalkeeper on his overall growth at the position.

“He deserves an opportunity to play in the Premier League,” Cohen said in a club interview, transcribed by Luton Today. I can’t believe Luton don’t want him. He’s a wonderful professional and he’s good enough to play in the Premier League.”

James Shea and Matt Macey are among the candidates to start for Luton Town this season, unless a dramatic late move is completed for re-acquire Horvath on a permanent deal. Horvath meanwhile, remains a Nottingham Forest player, but could be on the way out with Dean Henderson and Matt Turner both linked as potential acquisitions for Steve Cooper’s squad.

Horvath’s production last season speaked for itself and with his former assistant coach supporting him for a long-term future in the Premier League, it might not be long before the Colorado native finds a new home this summer.

Nottingham Forest opens its Premier League campaign on August 12 against Arsenal.
