Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Dest, Tillman, and more

The top two teams in the Dutch Eredivisie square off on Sunday with a trio of Americans hoping to see the field.

Sergino Dest, Malik Tillman, Ricardo Pepi and PSV visit Feyenoord in a highly-anticipated clash from Rotterdam. PSV remains unbeaten in league play, sitting seven points clear of its rivals this fall. Dest has remained a regular for Peter Bosz’s squad this season, enjoying a positive loan spell from Barcelona. Although the defender’s international window came to a frustrating ending, Dest has remained a consistent starter at club level and is coming off a strong UEFA Champions League performance vs. Sevilla.

Both Tillman and Pepi have continued to earn their opportunities off the bench. Tillman has five goals and two assists in nine league appearances this season while Pepi has three goals and one assist in 11 appearances. Both players will be itching to start against Feyenoord, especially after lively performances midweek.

In England, Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson and Fulham visit Liverpool. Auston Trusty and Luca Koleosho go head-to-head. Haji Wright and Coventry City visit Ipswich Town.

In Germany, Gio Reyna and Borussia Dortmund visit Bayer Leverkusen. Brenden Aaronson and Union Berlin travel to Bayern Munich.

Elsewhere, Emmanuel Sabbi and Le Havre host PSG. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic visit St. Johnstone. Dante Polvara and Aberdeen visit Hibernian. Alan Sonora and Huracan continue their season through the Argentinian Copa de la Liga Playoffs. Mark McKenzie and Genk host Gent in Belgian league play.

    • i find such details telling, but we we have plateaued as a long term trend. and that plateau helps re-make itself since seeding is on recent U17 worlds finishes. you end up drawn from pot 3 eliminated after losing to a pot 1 team and the best pot 2 team.

      Reply
      • Well actually our pot 3 position was solidified by 2019, 2015, and 2013 poor performances. With 2011’s 4 pts at 20% dropping off and our 6 pts being added at 100% we actually have more pts being applied to our positioning. The 12.6 we will have would have tied us for the last spot in pot 2 this tournament. The bonus 5 pts added in for winning your region would put us into pot 2 pretty safely.

Additionally we were in pot 3 and still advanced past pot 2 squad South Korea. Not too mention we were in pot 2 in 2019 and had one of our worst performances in any level WC. Obviously the higher your seed the better chance you have but a lot of it is just luck or unluck of the draw. Like facing the Asian and UEFA champs in your group. Or getting to face your regional rival in the first round of knockouts.
