Haji Wright did not feature in Coventry City’s league victory over Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday, but very well could make his return in this week’s trip to Hillsborough.
Wright returned to training on Monday ahead of the Sky Blues’ fourth round FA Cup showdown with the Owls on Friday. The U.S. men’s national team forward suffered an adductor injury against Middlesbrough on New Years Day, which caused him to miss the last three matches in all competitions.
However, the Sky Blues’ leading scorer looks to have made a speedy recovery, which is crucial for Coventry’s second-half schedule.
“He’s on the grass, so he’s getting close,” Coventry City manager Mark Robins said in an interview transcribed by the Coventry Telegraph. “It means that the injury has healed sufficiently and we just have to make sure the final part of it is right before we reintroduce him. But I think he will be on the grass with us and start to be reintegrated into training.”
Wright has totaled eight goals and five assists in EFL Championship play, which are both club-highs. The 25-year-old has been key in the Sky Blues’ 10-match unbeaten run across all competitions, helping Coventry move into sixth place in the league table.
A trip to Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup is next on the schedule before a final match this month at Bristol City, both of which Coventry City will be favored to win.
