U.S. women’s national team interim head coach Twila Kilgore has been forced into her first roster move ahead of the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup.
Becky Sauerbrunn has replaced Alana Cook on the USWNT roster, U.S. Soccer announced. Cook has been ruled out of the competition due to a minor knee injury suffered during her NWSL preseason training with Seattle Reign FC.
Sauerbrunn brings added experience to the USWNT backline after earning 217 caps to date. After missing the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup due to a foot injury, Sauerbrunn returned to action last October in friendly action against Colombia.
The USWNT’s group stage schedule will take place at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Cali. Either Guyana or the Dominican Republic will oppose the Americans on Feb. 20 in their first group stage match.
The USWNT will also face Argentina on Feb. 23 and Mexico on Feb. 26 to close out group stage play.
The top two finishers in each of the three groups, along with the two best third-place teams will qualify for the knockout stage. Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium will host the tournament quarterfinals on March 2 and 3 respectively before the competition shifts to San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium for semifinal and final action.
The Final Four of the competition is slated to take place on March 6 and 10 respectively.
Canada, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Colombia have already guaranteed their berths into the group stage.
