Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Cardoso, Reyna, and more

Johnny Cardoso is quickly becoming one of the better players in the Real Betis squad this spring.

Cardoso logged a strong 90 minutes on Friday as Manuel Pellegrini’s men defeated Celta Vigo 2-1 in La Liga play. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder won five of seven duels, led all players with three fouls drawn, and made nine recoveries as Real Betis moved up to seventh place in the league table.

Cardoso, 22, has now made 12 appearances for Real Betis across all competitions, scoring one goal and adding two assists. After helping Betis snap their four-match losing streak over the weekend, Cardoso will seek a strong end of the season ahead of a potential Olympic or Copa America call up this summer.

In England, Gio Reyna impressed in his first Premier League start. Antonee Robinson and Fulham earned three points at West Ham. Ethan Horvath and Cardiff City saw their promotion hopes ended at Millwall.

In Italy, Weston McKennie and Juventus tied rivals Torino. Yunus Musah assisted once in AC Milan’s draw with Sassuolo.

In Germany, Lennard Maloney went the distance for Heidenheim. Brenden Aaronson and Union Berlin lost on the road.

Elsewhere, George Bello and LASK earned a crucial win over Red Bull Salzburg. Gabriel Slonina returned in between the posts for Eupen. Brandon Vazquez and Monterrey tied Tigres in Liga MX play. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic remained top of the SPFL table.

Comments

  1. Sargent the only one in The Championship with much chance of promotion. Coventry and Preston both 8 pts back with only 12 pts max available. Preston’s GD of -1 puts them even further back.
    ——————————
Good weekend for Tessmann and Venezia but Giaocchini’s Como just keeps winning. Venezia has clinched at least a spot in the playoffs but it would be better to get to 2nd place and avoid that drama.
    —————————-
Juve is painful to watch, they were playing for a draw against 9th place Torino. Juventus shouldn’t be bunkering with their talent against a team like Torino.
