Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Pulisic, Richards, and more

AC Milan’s quest to lift a 20th all-time Serie A title gets underway on Saturday at the San Siro with American attacker Christian Pulisic aiming to lead the way vs. Torino.

Pulisic enters his second season with the Rossoneri after delivering a strong debut in Serie A last campaign. The U.S. men’s national team star registered 15 goals and 11 assists for AC Milan, leading as one of the top playmakers in the Italian top flight. Pulisic is joined by several dynamic attackers in Paulo Fonseca’s squad, including Rafael Leao, Samuel Chukwueze, and Alvaro Morata.

After delivering a productive debut season in Italy, the sky is the limit for Pulisic in season No. 2 as AC Milan aims to pick up multiple trophies along the way. The 25-year-old scored once against Torino last season and will be confident to extend that streak on Saturday despite dealing with a recent ankle knock.

In Germany, Gio Reyna and Joe Scally headline the American players who will begin their competitive schedules in the German DFB Pokal.

In England, Chris Richards and Crystal Palace face London rivals Brentford in their season opener. Antonee Robinson and Fulham visit Manchester United.

In Scotland, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic host Hibernian in League Cup action.

In Spain, Luca De La Torre gets his La Liga campaign underway with Celta Vigo.

Elsewhere, George Bello and LASK face Red Bull Salzburg. Jonathan Amon seeks a second-straight goalscoring performance for Lyngby. Christian Cappis aims to make his debut with Norwegian side Viking. Brandon Vazquez and Monterrey resume Liga MX play.

  1. Latest: Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie is not interested in a switch to Galatasaray, reports Nicolo Schira. An intermediary had approached the United States international, however McKennie has rejected the opportunity. Juventus are keen to offload the playmaker this summer, with the 25-year-old not in the plans of head coach Thiago Motta.

Saw this previously regarding possible move to Fiorentina.
It appears he is not in plans for current season with Juventus.

    • Now I see an article that has come out claiming Juventus are going ro reintegration Mckennie into the doeat team after he had conversations with Motta.

    • I don’t think there is anything to update, last we heard he was training by himself which could be a big problem considering how he fluctuates with weight and he was already looking a bit heavy this summer with the USMNT smh

      • yeah I saw that same article! McKennie is literally pricing himself out of contracts is what I’m gathering, he is making 2.5 million with Juve, and I’m hearing that he wants a 4 year extension that would essentially pay him 5 million fer season…..what is he smoking that he thinks he’s worth that, or that any club would pay him that outside of Saudi Arabia LOL?

      • Ronnie,

“he is making 2.5 million with Juve, and I’m hearing that he wants a 4 year extension that would essentially pay him 5 million fer season…..what is he smoking that he thinks he’s worth that, or that any club would pay him that ”

Busio makes 2.5 million at Venezia, Tim Weah makes 2.5 million at Juve., Tyler, who played 3 games last season, makes 2.8 million and bringing up the rear, Brenden Aaronson, who has had an awful 18 months makes 2. 1 million per season.

Fat slob though he may be, Weston had a better season for his club than all those guys. Though maybe you could make an argument for Busio.

Tell again he’s a fat slob for asking for 5 million.

Are you going to tell me that Weston is out of his mind to ask for 5 million?

      • Wow, the slander on this sight is beyond the pale …

Vacqui: “fat slob” … Brother, pump your breaks. The man is still fitter than nearly 99% of the world … LOL

AND NO, it is not crazy for a guy who had near double digit goals contributions to ask for better pay. If Juve had better finishing he could have easily had 15 helpers. He was top three in that SORRY (and I’m being generous) Juve side.

No one in that squad currently is gonna produce the same (Chance creation/Progressive passes, Assist and Counter-Attack stopping fouls). He puts in work. The results when he plays are undeniable. Maybe he doesn’t fit BUT Juve also doesn’t have anyone better. That’s the front offices fault, not his.

Pay the man and stop playing.

My “fat slob “comment was in response to this from Ronnie, so go complain to Ronnie:

For me Weston’s inconsistency for the USMNT has little to do with whether or not he’s plump or svelte. I’ll be very curious to see if Pochettino can get Weston to be more consistent.

If BA is making 2.1 per and 3 games per season Tyler is making 2.8, Weston asking for 5 is hardly insane, but I guess our guys are supposed to play for passion and love.

        Fuck that.
