After a goal-less first half, FC Utrecht took swift advantage of the match at the hour mark. Niklas Versterlund broke the deadlock in the 60th minute before Aaronson called his own number five minutes later, doubling the visitors lead at 2-0.

Santiago Gimenez pulled a consolation goal back for Feyenoord but FC Utrecht would hang on for a first head-to-head win since 2021.

  1. Actually Sargent played about 10 minutes for Norwich as the other article says and he is feeling good, maybe get rid of “Josh Sargent is OUT (Injury) for Norwich City.”

    • Tillman has 7g 1a, Brendan has 7g 2a, Pulisic 10g 5a? Who do you leave off? Is he better than Gio or Weston? Don’t you think those two would dominate in the Eredivisie?

      Reply
    • “Would be another good dual 10 addition.”

Is he better than CP? His brother? Gio? Weston, Zendejas, Balogun, Weah, Cole Campbell?, Busio? LDLT? Malik? Luna?

If he were not an Aaronson would he be rated so highly?

      Reply
      • I mean he did win the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at 2022 Concacaf U20 Championships, followed by making the first team at Frankfurt. He’s got 9g 4a in 34 matches in The Netherlands or about one every 2.5 matches. So is he getting more hype because of his big brother? Maybe, but he’s done pretty well on his own for a young prospect. If this was 5 years ago everybody would be clamoring for him.

      • I don’t think Pax is as far away as you make it sound. To state the obvious: CP and Weston are established CL players. Tillman has had several chances with the USMNT and hasn’t impressed. Gio is clearly a top talent but has been injured for a year and still isn’t playing much. None of the others you mentioned play that position. Luna is probably the closest comparison and I wouldn’t mind seeing both he and Pax get a shot over the next year or so.

      • Balogun is a striker. Weah is a winger. Cole Campbell has barely received first team minutes. Gio is still not Gio of 3 years ago. Pax is almost tied for goals with Tillman. Busio isn’t a 10. I rate Luna and we shall see how he does soon. Pax was the outstanding player in the same u 20 team. And quite frankly that team with Pax if he was allowed to go to tye u20 wc makes it past Uruguay.

      • JR

“followed by making the first team at Frankfurt.”
Where they found out that he needed more work. Everyone should pump the breaks on Pax.

He’s doing well for a mid level Eredivisie team against largely mid level opposition. For just one season. 17 godamn games. Did he do anything in the Bundesliga, a league where Gio has proven he can score?

NO. Paxton did not. That’s why he was loaned to the Eredivisie.

Remember the Eredivisie ? The league where everyone on SBI says goals scored by strikers should be discounted because no one plays defense and everyone attacks 100% of the time and defenders are retards?
That’s what they say when talking about Jozy’s very impressive accomplishments. But, it changes when the talk is about Medford’s Paxton. Double standard hypocrisy there.

        ? Did y’all forget that?
Paxton is promising but he’s no CP, Weston, Gio, Flo or even Pepi. I wouldn’t even rate him over his brother and I’m not a big fan of BA but right now BA is playing about as well as he possibly can.

      • V: sorry I muddied the water a bit. Paxten isn’t getting hype just because he’s an Aaronson which was one of your original statements. He’s done enough on his own to get interest. Yes he’s in the Eredivisie but so is Dest, Pepi, and Tillman and we still are interested in those three. If you look above I made your exact point there are better more experienced people producing at his position in equal or better leagues.
        —————
Check my statement at the bottom to 2tone, picking Paxten over Gio is ridiculous. Pax is not on Gio’s level even if he’s not 100% in form.

      • Vac, more reasons for you to dislike Nations League. When I say I like it, it is accepting that it exists for Europe so instead of scrambling to get good freindlies with good non-European teams, they can play meaningful games. In a perfect world, people like Paxton would be rewarded for good club performances with callups to friendlies first and if they prove themselves they get considered for official competition squads but there won’t be any FIFA window freindlies before Nations League semis/finals I don’t think so very little opportunity for Poch to try to integrate newbies in those rosters without a big gamble unless he decides he doesn’t have 22 quality field players from the known – which he might. Gold cup sucks for European players because of the timing so when does Poch get to call in the European newbies?

      • “Vac, more reasons for you to dislike Nations League. ”

I don’t dislike the Nations League. It was created so that the “weaker” teams had more of a chance to play the “bigger” teams in their own conferences and thus benefit from the competition and possibly the gate.

In the old days the USMNT would be trying schedule Brazil , or Italy
Now we are committed to playing the likes of St. Kitts & Nevis, Guadeloupe or TNT.

Whoever thought of this, they will be proven right. Over time it will greatly benefit CONCACAF teams . Except for Mexico and the USMNT.

In the short term , say over the next 10-20 years, the chances for the USMNT to schedule quality alternative opposition and thus develop have been drastically reduced.. There may be a way around this but so far the USMNT has not found it. The Nations League commitments greatly handcuff’s Pochettino’s chances to schedule meaningful games for his guys.

“Gold cup sucks for European players because of the timing so when does Poch get to call in the European newbies?”

Whenever he can or almost never.

JK often pointed this out when he was manager. It’s why he took the Gold Cup about as seriously as I do, much to everyone’s outrage.

Unless Pochettino and the USSSF have something sneaky planned we all know what games they have left.

Apparently you see the Nations League as something good for the USMNT. Why is that?

      • Vac, I don’t see it as necessarily something good for USMT as much as something good for me. I enjoy watching the Nations League games more than freindlies against CONCACAF opponents. Because the games are during FIFA windows, it is the only time the CONCACAF teams can have their best players available because all the top CONCACAF players play in Europe. Since they have it, it is clearly the most important competition for CONCACAF so I enjoy the US winning it. Once Nations League started, it diminished even further the value of the Gold Cup. I recognize the downsides as I had previously stated. The semis and finals have been probably the most fun games for me to watch since 2014 WC.

      • Tele57,

        You are a 1000% right.
Whoever we play in Nations League it’s like night and day if you compare playing those same teams before there was a Nations League. It’s almost enough to make me not want to bother watching those horseshit Gold Cup games but duty calls.

And not just the CONCACAF Nation’s League. The Nations League games in Europe also seem livelier and more competitive. Certainly they are more entertaining than I’m used to from those guys.

Nations League is good for the greater good. It just makes it harder for the USMNT to get to the stated goal of competitive dominance matching what the women have.

The only way to get around the math issue here is to keep sending good kids to win important jobs with Champion’s League teams . In other words if we can maybe triple or quadruple the number of “WORLD CLASS” players we have ( right now we have none) it might make it so that the USMNT does not need so many practice games to learn how to play a three man back line.

    • Yall are acting like I said he should be in the starting 11. I said a callup. And quite frankly I would take Pax over Gio right now. Gio has to get his club ball situated.
I can’t say if Wes or Gio would dominate because they haven’t played in the Eredivisie.

      Reply
      • That’s ridiculous. People don’t judge Gio on his play they are still prosecuting him on actions from three years ago most of which was perpetrated by his parents. We don’t win either of the last two NL without Gio (and maybe not even third since he scores and assisted in the final in 2021). That was when he wasn’t playing too. He is our best #10. Pax has 5g in the Eredivisie let’s not act like he’s on the same level. There is a reason Eintract loaned him out again.

      • “And quite frankly I would take Pax over Gio right now. Gio has to get his club ball situated.”

I would not. Not today 1/14/2025.

Neither Gio nor Paxton would be going 90 for the USMNT right now.

So if we’re bringing in a guy to go 15-45 minutes at a high level, Gio has shown he can do that to a very high level, as we’ve just seen. And if you’re going to tell me you’d rather develop the younger guy right now, Gio is ONE year older, bigger and stronger and probably a better defender than Paxton.

I’ll go out on a limb here and say that Weston or Gio would start in the Eredivisie and dominate. You won’t see it though because both guys have salaries that are way too high for the Netherlands.
