Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Turner, Horvath, and more

A pair of U.S. men’s national team goalkeepers seek to make rare starts in FA Cup play this weekend.

Matt Turner and Ethan Horvath will fight for opportunities as Crystal Palace and Cardiff City seek advancement in the historic competition. Turner and Crystal Palace make the trip to Doncaster Rovers on Monday with Turner likely to get the nod in cup play.

The USMNT No. 1 goalkeeper registered a four-save clean sheet in a 1-0 home win over Stockport County in the fourth round. Turner earned Man of the Match honors in what was only his second appearance of the season.

Horvath also shined in the FA Cup fourth round, registering a seven-save clean sheet as the Bluebirds defeated Sheffield United 1-0 at Bramall Lane. The 30-year-old has been reduced to only five appearances this season, but should get the nod as Cardiff City aims to rotate its squad at Stoke City.

Both Turner and Horvath may need to reevaluate their club futures this summer, but for now will need to take every opportunity that they receive.

Elsewhere in England, Tyler Adams and Bournemouth visit Everton. Caleb Wiley seeks to make his Watford debut in EFL Championship play. Josh Sargent and Norwich City take on Derby County.

In Germany, James Sands and St. Pauli visit RB Leipzig. Noahkai Banks and Lennard Maloney go head-to-head.

In Spain, Johnny Cardoso and Real Betis visit Celta Vigo.

In Italy, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan take on Empoli in Serie A action. Weston McKennie and Juventus face Como.

In the Netherlands, Taylor Booth seeks to make his FC Twente debut. Lily Yohannes and Ajax face rivals Feyenoord.
