Josh Sargent’s return to the Norwich City starting lineup is paying up big time.
Sargent scored the winning goal on Saturday as Johannes Hoff Thorup’s men defeated Watford 1-0 at Vicarage Road. It marked Sargent’s third goal in his last two appearances for the Canaries.
Sargent almost broke the deadlock in the second minute but was denied from close range by Watford’s Jonathan Bond.
However, Sargent would have the last laugh as he propelled the visiting Canaries in front before halftime. A Norwich City free kick deflected off of the Watford wall, but Sargent eventually bundled home a rebound in the box for the opening goal.
It is Sargent’s fourth goal in his sixth career appearance vs. Watford in all competitions.
Despite having an extra man for most of the second half, Norwich City couldn’t add to its lead. The Canaries would walk away with all three points though, jumping into 11th place in the EFL Championship standings.
A healthy, fit, and confident Sargent is coming in key for Norwich City during the second half of the season.
“[Sargent’s goal] was massive for us,” Canaries defender Kellen Fisher said about Sargent’s goal. “That’s what Sarge does, he’s a poacher in front of goal. Any chance like that he’s gonna put it away, so it was good for us.”
The Canaries will return to Carrow Road next weekend for a home date with Derby County.
Can’t wait to hear how naive everyone is for following his “club form analytics”. Maybe Berhalter was just really bad at positioning his strikers to score.
JR being a Beerholder🍻🍺🫲🧑‍🦲apologist is baffling to me the guy was a crash out heinous coach. Same lackluster433 which alowed so much attacking on the wings whi h was beerholder fault. He also kept misusing Aaronson to where he was in a position to have to fight through multi0le players making him get knocked off the ball. Aaronson should be in a forward position up top in 433 not in midfield on the right wing which is Pulisic position not Aaronson.
Striker:
“Can’t wait to hear how naive everyone is for following his “club form analytics”.
IV was whining this week that Sargent should be given a chance because he hasn’t scored since 2019. Claiming that Sargent scoring 30+ goals in the Championship was meaningless.

“Maybe Berhalter was just really bad at positioning his strikers to score.” I’m saying Berhalter was likely the problem with the CF not scoring. If you look at his tenure the CFs rarely scored unless we were playing Cuba, Grenada, or Trinidad. The strategy was to use the CF to try to occupy both CBs to leave room for Pulisic, Reyna, and Weah. It might have actually worked if we ever had positioned someone at the top of the box to take advantage of that space, you know like maybe an AM like Aaronson or Reyna.
Another example of people on here’s minds going on tilt as soon as Berhalter is referenced. Settle down. I have NEVER seen anyone on here saying Berhalter was a great coach. I have however seen people on here calling out irrational criticisms of him. The two things are not the same – and this one was actually an obvious criticism. When you (all the Berhalter Syndrome folks) see the word Berhalter, pause, take a couple deep breaths, then try to contain your emotions and get control of your brain before making a comment.
“When you (all the Berhalter Syndrome folks) see the word Berhalter, pause, take a couple deep breaths, then try to contain your emotions and get control of your brain before making a comment.”
Why?
Not bad for a guy who is still, very probably, working his way back from injury.
Josh’s USMNT scoring record:
2018 6 2
2019 6 3
2020 0 0
2021 7 0
2022 4 0
2023 0 0
2024 4 0
Total 27 5 goals
Active USMNT goal scoring not named Pulisic;
Jesus Ferreira (15), Gyasi Zardes (14), Ricardo Pepi (13), Jordan Morris (11), Weston McKennie (11).
This tells me that Josh has been unlucky with injury and that Pepi has been the only successful #9 in recent memory.
IV would named Ferreira as the #9 but only if the title is for “scoring vs weak shit”.
Aaronson scored the opener for Leeds today. Continuing his beat season.
Excellent. Now keep that going and deliver for the USMNT.
