Weah, McKennie, Juventus eliminated from Champions League

Juventus looked set to book its spot into the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday until a late collapse cost the Serie A side.

Tim Weah scored his first career UCL goal, but Thiago Motta’s squad lost 3-1 in second leg action at PSV. The Dutch club advanced 4-3 on aggregate after a 98th minute winner from Ryan Flamingo.

Ivan Perisic boosted Peter Bosz’s men in front after 53 minutes, but Weah would tie the match 10 minutes later with a thundering strike. It marked Weah’s sixth goal of the season across all competitions, giving him 10 goal contributions for the club this campaign.

Ismael Saibari’s close-range finish in the 74th minute tied the match on aggregate and forced the two clubs to go extra time.

A frantic series in the Juventus box in the 98th minute allowed Flamingo to slot home the eventual deciding goal. Flamingo earned Man of the Match honors after logging a strong 120 minutes at the Phillips Stadion.

Weah played 90 minutes in the match while U.S. men’s national team teammate Weston McKennie logged the full 120. Richie Ledezma played 78 minutes at right back for PSV.

Juventus will return to Serie A play on Sunday against Cagliari while PSV hosts Go Ahead Eagles in KNVB Cup action on February 26.
