Yunus Musah scores vital equalizer in Atalanta’s Coppa Italia draw

Yunus Musah is picking up steam at the right time for Atalanta.

Musah came off the bench on Wednesday to score a 90th minute equalizer in Atalanta’s 2-2 first leg semifinal draw with Lazio in Coppa Italia action. The American midfielder made it back-to-back goalscoring appearances, continuing a recent resurgence of form.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru boosted Lazio in front 1-0 early into the second half but Atalanta would draw level only four minutes later through Mario Pasalic’s finish.

Boulaye Dia looked to have given the hosts a first leg advance heading into April 22nd’s second leg in Bergamo. However, Musah had other ideas on the verge of stoppage time.

Kamaldeen Sulemana’s cross from the left wing was drilled home by an onrushing Musah, giving Raffaele Palladino’s squad their second comeback of the night.

Musah, who has now scored two goals in his last two outings, will now fight to jump into the starting lineup for Saturday’s Serie A date with Udinese.

The 23-year-old will also hope his recent run of form can boost him into U.S. men’s national team duty later this month, which would mark his first international call-up in one year.

  1. I always was hopeful that he would find his place and find his form. Any of them that are blooming now, better late than never, and better healthy than injured.

Now if he could just do something about that Amish-style beard … Why would young men want to make themselves unattractive?

But I suppose that’s what the parents and grandparents of all the ones covered in ugly tattoos have already said, to no avail. At least the beard, and the Nazi over-the-ear shave, won’t last for life.

  2. I don’t know why he is shy to let fly!!!!!! Remember this?

“In the 5th minute of the June 12, 2024, friendly against Brazil, Yunus Musah unleashed a powerful 30-yard shot that hit the underside of the crossbar and grazed goalkeeper Alisson Becker. This “rocket” was part of an aggressive start by the USMNT in the 1-1 draw, nearly giving them an early lead”

Alisson didn’t see or get nowhere near that shit!!!! He needs to do more of those as he is housing a cannon.

Hope he gets that confidence back soon….. And we get to see a lot more of those

      • Vacqui,
“Nearly 2 years between “that shit” suggests that there is lot more involved than Yunus being “shy”……….what does that have to do with Yunus Musah HAVING THE ABILITY TO RELEASE A 30 YARD SHOT with enough venom to trouble any world class goalkeeper, lol

Don’t know what you are getting at. Shy in the sense that he doesn’t take those chances often enough…….but when he does its a handful for any team.

    • Bizzy, his stats don’t bear that out. He rarely gets the ball on frame. I understand he doesn’t have a lot of minutes this year, but he’s put two shots on frame. That holds up across his career. Yunus has been consistently around 20% Shots on Target for his career. Other NTers in their leagues this season:
      Pulisic 58
      Pepi 53
      Adams 75
      Zendajas 41 (last season)
      Wes 39
      Haji 38
      Agyemang 38
      Weah 42
      Balo 45
      Tessmann 29 (39 all comps)
Tillman 23 (far lowest of his career, previous low was 43)
      Busio 35
      Morris 21
      Roldan 39 (2025 season)
AC Milan fans will remember several open chances that Yunus put in the stands or well wide. I hope this indicates he’s figured some things out but the hyperbole that keepers fear him is probably pretty off. For my money it’s not shyness but in decision that has hindered Musah. Taking an extra dribble instead of hitting the open pass or shot that has closed his angles or let him be tackled. For me the excitement isn’t over how he struck but that he just hit it at all.

  3. OK I see you Musah. Looks like he has been doing some work. Quite frankly I have always felt he has the talent just needs to put it all together consistently. If he does that well he will be a big time player.

  4. Took the thing on a fairly brisk bounce and put his foot through it in stride so clean and with such technique it would have made prime David Beckham weep with pride. Not an easy skill even for a top-tier world-class player.

I am so confused right now.
