Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Trusty, Leyva, and more

Close to one month since his last outing for Scottish club Celtic, Auston Trusty made his return to action on Sunday.

Trusty played 90 minutes as Martin O’Neill’s squad defeated Dundee FC 2-1 in SPFL play. The U.S. men’s national team defender rarely put a foot wrong in the victory, winning four duels, making eight clearances, and five defensive recoveries.

Trusty, who had missed most of March’s schedule due to suspension, retained his starting spot and helped Celtic stay three points back in the title race. The 27-year-old has now made 33 appearances for the club across all competitions and will surely add to that total before season’s end.

Up next for Celtic is a league date with St. Mirren on April 11 before the two sides face off against in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park on April 18.

In England, Brenden Aaronson helped Leeds United reach a first FA Cup semifinal in 39 years. Emily Fox and Arsenal suffered FA Cup elimination at home to Brighton & Hove Albion. Sam Coffey helped Manchester City reach the FA Cup semifinals.

  1. They saying Agyemang went down with a no contact injury man! That’s no Bueno! I want hermano to get a EPL division 1 contract.

  2. Striker, as all the soccer nerds know, is really about the hot hand at the moment. Who will be producing in June and July. Josh Sargent had his first monster game for Toronto. Coach punch is watching.

    Reply
    • Boy I don’t know if Poch is watching Sargent. He was flat out invisible the last two NT matches he started. I think Poch is probably more excited about Pulisic as the 4th striker than Sargent.

      • Lil man, you might need to pull out your pocket calculator and do some recalculations. And maybe not over think it to much. You seem to want to take ann out of form, known bad locker room guy over an in form player on the field as well as in the locker room. It’s really strange.

      • Sargent despite being in great club form for most of the last four seasons hasn’t scored or assisted in 5 years. 849 minutes without a goal contribution for the national team. Gio hasn’t had a goal contribution for 53 minutes. I’ve been consistent I’d take Gio as my 26th guy. But I’d tell him your guy 26, if that’s not ok with you say no. The 26th guy is probably not going to play, but if I’m down a goal and I need a miracle there is no one in the pool more capable of coming off the bench and pulling that off out of nothing.
        ————————
Josh’s last start 17 touches in 62 minutes 1 in the opponents box. 0 shots 0 chances created. Came in in amazing club form 6g in 5 matches. Balo subbed in 22 touches in 28 minutes 11 touches in the box 1 chance created 3 shots.
        ————-
        Previous start vs Panama
68 minutes 8 touches!!!!!!!!! 1 shot (blocked), 3 touches in the box, 1 defensive contribution. 8g in 10 previous matches for Norwich at the time. Agyeman 22 minutes 6 touches 2 shots, 2 touches in the box, 2 defensive contributions.
        —————
In Josh’s last three starts all around 60 minutes he’s had 1 shot total (it was blocked) and a grand total of 3 touches in the box! Josh’s club form has had no effect on his performance for the NT there’s no indication that his performance for Toronto would be any different. Gio has been the opposite whether he’s playing or not he contributes. I pulled out the calculator the math doesn’t lie.
        ————————-
I doubt either makes it though.
