Manchester United and Manchester City figure to contend for the Premier League crown this season, but they'll fight for the FA Community Shield on Sunday in a high-profile season tune-up.
A number of Americans are also slated to be in action Sunday as well. Although he's not guaranteed to start after coming off a hamstring injury, Jozy Altidore's AZ Alkmaar gets its season underway against PSV Eindhoven; Carlos Bocanegra and St. Etienne open their Ligue 1 campaign against Bordeaux; and U.S.internationals DaMarcus Beasley and Herculez Gomez look to shine in their matches in Mexico's top flight.
A wild weekend of MLS comes to a close north of the border later in the day, with the Vancouver Whitecaps hosting the Chicago Fire.
If you will be watching any of Sunday's matches, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the action (TV schedule is after the jump):

Geez the South Korean U-20’s play an ugly brand of football.
Erm, Isn’t Adler on Leverkusen? Sorry, but Germany’s Number 2 is going to start over Yelldell anytime he can…
ESPN’s transfer blog posted earlier that Bologna had come in with a bid of 5 million for Bradley.
Did not know that. Hope it is not something that is career threatening. Thanks for the info.
He was involved in a serious accident, I don’t remember what it was but will be out for some time.
Borussia Mönchengladbach shocks FC Bayern 1:0 in Munich. Coach Lucien Favre has done great things with Gladbach since he took over in January as Michael Bradley was jumping off what he thought was a sinking ship for the greener pastures of Ashton Villa. If MB cannot find a decent team that wants him before the transfer window closes, he should be begging Favre for one more chance at Gladbach. This is an amazing way for Gladbach to start the season.
Off topic, but whatever happened to Michael Hoyos? Last I remember he was getting some time with Estudiantes and on an Argentina youth squad but haven’t heard anything about him in some time.
Neuer just ****ed up and let one in. The ultras are gonna want his head.

That was inexplicable from City. Terrible.
In the last minute of stoppage time, Nani nets the winner. Tragic defending by Clichy and Kompany there (glad Arsenal let Clichy leave).
Indeed. ManU’s got the run of play now…
2-2 in the 68th minute…
That last sequence by man united was brilliant
No Short Corners also has the Jozy highlights. The chip or serve set up the chance nicely and Jozy made an intelligent run and separated to put himself in the clear. Great to see him score in his first league match for AZ. Keep it up!
Dang! Nasty swerve on that bolt by Dzeko. Hard to tell whether De Gea should’ve done better given the bend on Dzeko’s shot. Hoping for a furious 2H.
ESPN Deportes will have AZ vs PSV via tape-delay at 1:30pm Eastern Time.
Watching Man City vs Man Utd right now. No such thing as a “friendly” when these two go at each other…
Yelldell lost the (temp) starting role for Leverkusen after 1 game. Bummer…
Anybody else hear them play Born in the USA after Jozy’s goal? Good to see him make an impact today. Needs to work on his touches at times, but his effort was increased over what I have seen from him lately. Good on ya Jozy!
nevermind found some:

anyone have the highlights?
Starts in 30 minutes from now
Good for Jozy. Hope ESPN3 has this archived so I can watch later.
Now what time does the Community Shield kickoff? 9:30 or 10? I keep seeing it different…
vive altidore. Also, the guy who crossed him the ball maher he is 17 I am suprised he is a very early bloomer.
Bravo Jozy. He was great in the Gold Cup until he got hurt. He was not actually “great” today – he got manhandled a couple of times and had a few poor touches – but he was effective. His gol sealed a huge win for AZ.
Here’s hoping this marks a new stage in Jozy’s career.
Huge win for AZ and big goal from Jozy using his head or a change. good to see him get pt and a tally against a Champions League side. Big big big for USMNT.
3-1 Final score AZ finishes with 10 men after a second yellow sends off a defender. Jozy comes in at 66’…has a couple of nervy touches followed by a nice run in the box and a great header for a goal at 79′, served by 17yr old Maher from near the right end line. Great work Jozy!
Is it over? I can’t get espn3 to work? 3-1 to AZ?
Jozy with a very dumb yellow card. Letting the physical nature of the game get to him. Be smarter than that big guy.
and a yellow a little later
clever run from jozy. never thought i would ever say that.
You guys watching this online or on tv?
Link please? Tried some but only found some bet that requires suscription???
Never mind – espn3
Where are you guys watching this?
jozy!!!
GOAL JOZY!!!!
Jozy playing physical since coming on
shows what I know! glad to see jozy coming on!
Altidore ready to come on…
60 minute and he’s still on the bench with only one sub left and a 2-1 lead for AZ. Not looking good for him today.
No Jozy yet but he is dressed.
