If the Seattle Sounders are going to beat the undefeated Houston Dynamo on Friday, they will have to do so without one of their key players.
Midfielder Mauro Rosales has been ruled out of the Sounders' upcoming game against Houston with a sprained right knee. Rosales, who could be forced out of action for the next few weeks, suffered a similar knock at the end of last year, but Seattle head coach Sigi Schmid said it is not the same injury.
Rosales suffered the knock in Saturday's 3-1 win against Toronto FC. Possible replacements for Rosales are Christian Sivebaek and Roger Levesque.
What do you think of Rosales possibly being out for the next few weeks? Do you see Seattle topping Houston without him?
Share your thoughts below.
This will be tough to overcome for Rave Green. Rosales has been Seattle’s most consistent and best player so far this year. That being said, Montero and Alonso have had a slow start. I think if they can pick up the slack the Sounders could still win the game.
Sivebaek as a replacement is interesting. When he came on the pitch Saturday he made a few mental errors and Sigi was screaming at him as much as I have seen in a long time. He was not happy early on. Sivebaek did pick his game up at the end of the match. He is huge and could prove to be a dangerous player verse Houston. My prediction 1-1 and the Sounders end with 10 men with Alonso picking up 2 yellows during the match
His leg was injured in a car crash while in Brazil visiting his wife so he was unable to train.
Camargo showed up for preseason out of shape, but I don’t think he’s dealing with any significant injuries. His wife did just give birth though.
Ugh. Burch in MF? No thanks. Slide Flaco into the middle, put Sivebaek in at LM. Problem solved.
Yes, actually, we can.
Houston is my team. I love ’em to death. But I think Houston struggles here because of the turf. They never play well on it whether in Seattle, Toronto, and where ever else there’s turf pitches. I see an ugly draw here 0-0. I am not looking forward to this game. Ching plays absolutely terrible here on turf. I bet Carr, Kanji, Bruin, and Weaver get plenty of playing time in this game. I am so waiting for Camargo to make his debut. His smart play and guile are very much needed on the Dynamo because Watson doesn’t have it.
At least they call the foul and card the guy.
So the turf caused dumb fouls too ? You might be a little biased. You think ? Maybe ?
How did the turf cause this injury? The centerback ran through him while he was in a kicking motion. How did his last injury happen? Because someone made a poor tackle into his knee.
I get that many people dislike turf, I do to and I certainly wish we had grass*, but pretty much every injury that has happened at the stadium is due to poor challenges or freak occurrences.
*Grass is incredibly difficult, and expensive, to maintain with any semblance of quality. When Seattle went to KC last season (mind you, the stadium wasn’t in use for the first chunk of the season, and Seattle played there relatively late in the season) their field looked like a fairway. Huge divots all over, and the goal boxes looked like the fields I might have played on as a kid. Now imagine that in a climate where is rains a lot during the fall months. Also imagine that in a few months the Sounders will be sharing the field with a professional and a collegiate football team (while their stadium is renovated). I would love a well maintained grass field, but it just doesn’t seem feasible.
You can’t discount the possibility that the fake turf contributes significantly to those injuries.
Without Rosales the game is a pick-em, even money. If Montero doesn’t pick up his game Houston wins.
Without Camargo and probably Watson as well, Houston will be without any attacking midfielders. I expect it to be ugly but I would think Seattle’s slow defense would give up a goal. While it wouldn’t surprise me to see Houston shut Seattle out, I think they have enough fire power from enough spots to put something in. Ugly 1-1 draw. This match will be much more entertaining at the end of the season when these two play for MLS Cup.
Dynamo can suprise some people and squeek out a win in Seattle. We all know how much of a fortress the CLink is *sarcasm*. Houston will have to be on top of there game and not misfiring.
go dynamo!!
Yeah, Hall is good but he played out of his mind that game
Carmago is injured (or at least he was) and not fit. He should not play for at least a few games. Assistant Coach Steve Ralston was keeping a better pace than he was during practice.
houston also had a couple other pieces on the field at that time and needed tally hall to show how much of a wall he could put between the posts to do that.
I sadly agree.
Carr or Kandji need to start ahead of Bruin. Also, Ching needs to come out the minute he starts to suck (hopefully no earlier than 60′ and no later than 65′).
I’m glad Watson will be on int’l duty, personally, because now Camargo, Sturgis or Dixon can get a shot.
More if said older player isn’t Beckham, the league is ambivalent to their safety… This crap is getting old.
THAT, my friend, is the question on every Dynamo fan’s mind.
A) Seattle has some great young players. They’re be fine with Rosales. B) Old farts have proven quite sufficient at carring teams in MLS (Becks, Rosales, JPA, Schelotto, and so on).
Oh yeah? THAT’S why “skilled players” choose to play elsewhere? I always thought it was the low pay, long distance travel and soccer’s low profile in America.
yea, cuz the refs are top notch in the EPL (sarcasm)! Lets ask Holden how clean the players in the EPL are
Will Houston have Camargo back? That’s as much of a factor as Rosales’ role in this game.
I haven’t seen anything from the Dynamo yet this season that would lead me to believe they’d beat Seattle with or without Rosales.
Uhhhh why 2008? Dynamo won ’06 and ’07……. I’m taking Houston 2-1. Bruin and Cameron score along with montero
This is going to be Sivebaek’s chance. He’s going to be a beast.
Sucks for Seattle. Rosales is class, but if you rely on a 31 y.o. (non-goalkeepr) to carry your team, you will inevitably be set back by injuries.
I give Seattle the advantage, but Houston drew there last season w/o Geoff Cameron in the back 4 and w/o Camargo and Moffat on the roster.
Ah… substitute a defender, or even Tally Hall for Ching, and as a Dynamo fan, you’re probably spot on.
This is the reason why theywent out and got Sviebeck. Everyone knows Rosales is not goign to be healthy every game. They will be fine. 2-1 sounders. It’s in Seattle. Houston wil not win.
This was also the stock 2007 and 2008 Dynamo scoreline, so I’ll take it as well.
Sounders will be fine. True MR10 is very important to our attack, thou we are a more balanced side this year & therefore don’t rely on Mauro as much as last year. Don’t get me wrong his creativity & quality will be missed, just not enough to derail The Sounder Train!
Sounders 2 Houston 1
Estrada ’19 aka CHIPS , Montero ’63
Ching ’36
Gonzo out of the dog house insert Burch in the mid.
Houston is gonna play the ugliest game of the season
2-0 Sounders Montero opens his account
Ah yes, the stock 2012 Dynamo scoreline. I’ll take it.
Amazing how many players are injured with the refs not calling a foul or in this case not awarding a PK. That is why MLS will always be a thug league and skilled players will continue to play elsewhere. It’s not worth it to be a great player and have hacks take you out because they are upset about being beaten like the unskilled little boys they are.
this is the second time rosales has had his knee injured on an obvious foul that ended up as a no call. it’s getting old for the fans but i can’t imagine how old it’s getting for mauro.
Dynamo 1-0
