Survival Sunday has arrived.
We will find out today which team will lift the English Premier League trophy, which EPL teams will play in the UEFA Champions League next year, as well as which teams won't be in the Premier League next season as ten league matches kick off to determine the winners and losers.
Manchester City has their fate in their hands. A win against Queens Park Rangers would give City the championship, while a draw or loss could open the door for Manchester United to win a record 20th league title.
Bolton will be rooting for City to win because a QPR loss and Bolton win today would help the Trotters secure a place in the Premier League for next season.
Arsenal is holding onto third place in the Premier League, but anything short of a win today could open the door for Tottenham or Newcastle to leapfrog the Gunners into third place.
The English Premier League isn't the only game in town today. In Italy, Lazio and Inter Milan square off with a place in the UEFA Champions League on the line. A Lazio win puts the Roman club into the Champions League next season while Inter can jump into fourth place with a win and Napoli tie or loss.
In Mexico, Santos Laguna will look to book their place in the Mexican Clausura Playoff Final with a win today against Club America. Herculez Gomez and the Guerreros can secure a rematch of the CONCACAF Champions League final against Monterrey with a victory today.

Neither of you is wrong. Yes, if Bolton had more points, Foy’s decision would have been immaterial. But they didn’t have more points, which meant Foy’s decision *was* material. And since it was, it’s a shame he botched it.
I watched multiple replays from multiple angles and there is no elbow to the face. But congratulations you are qualified to be an assistant referee in the EPL. Your great work at making assumptions based on players reactions is just the kind of applicant they are looking for.
That was an elbow.
Indeed! Happy mothers day. mom!
Did you even watch the game, CSD???? I am not a Tevez fan. He’s a great player, but stubborn and selfish. However, Barton (a degenerate on his own merit) intentionally elbowed him in the face!!! In my 3 1/2 decades on this planet and involved in football/soccer, that has ALWAYS been a red. Watch replays of it again and rethink your comment.
“And yet, despite all that, had the referee made the correct decision, it wouldn’t have mattered.”
That’s not how the game is played. Bolton had 38 weeks to get 40 points, and they didn’t do it. That’s why they’re getting sent down, not due to Chris Foy swallowing his whistle. The EPL isn’t the NBA, the entire regular season still counts for something
And yet, despite all that, had the referee made the correct decision, it wouldn’t have mattered. How about the fact that Bolton players witnessed one of their own almost die literally in front of their eyes? Not just the obvious psychological damage, but how about the fixture congestion that ensued?
And Stu doesn’t have a history of staying healthy? Look at the two fouls committed on him, and tell me those are fouls that a ‘always-injured player picks up’. He got De-Jonged.
Why is Carlos Tevez still in the league? He is scum.
Barton bumped Tevez in the shoulder with no intend as both players came together and Tevez fell and grabbed his face. The referee assistant very far away decided well someone grabbed their face must be a red card. It is unfortunate that Barton kicked the wrong player for Manchester City. After a year of crap calls going against QPR as a QPR supporter I have no problem with the kick. What difference did it really make in the game? The referees had already made a farce of the game.
Oh please. Bolton are going down because they have a league second worst goal differential of -31. They are going down because they fail to hold leads late in games. They are going down because they sold their best defender in the middle of a relegation fight. And they are going down because they relied of players with a poor history of staying healthy and had no depth to replace them. I’m not happy that Bolton are gong down, but I know why they are, and it has little to do with Chris Foy.
anyone have a link to the man u fans celebrating then getting the call?
Indeed.
Well, just did an Internet search on Chris Foy, whose referring incompetence today is sending Bolton down to the Championship League. This joker has a history of bad and controversial game-influencing decisions. Some of the coaches publicly criticizing him this season include Harry Redknapp, Roberto Mancini and Andre Villas-Boas. And, curiously, in some of more controversial games, Stoke was the beneficiary—coming out on top as the winner. Bummer for Tim Ream and Stu Holden. Damn.
Somewhere Metta World Peace is laughing at this dude.
Why the hell is Joey Barton still in the Premier League? Calling him a “thug” is really an insult to thugs all over the world.
Agreed-the inherent unlikelihood of any given goal being scored makes dramatic finishes infinitely better than a game winning shot, etc. And I love other sports too.
Oddly enough the MSN.com front page is showing a headline reading “Manchester City wins title” and a picture of Tim Howard
Haha, same here. I think most SBI readers were rooting for City today so that Ream and Stu could stay up. That was my motivation, anyway. It didn’t work out for the Americans, but it was a hell of a day for soccer. Beautiful game it is.
Champs, son.
I can barely breathe.
I don’t even like City lol.
THATs why soccer is the greatest sport in the world. For finishes like that. So brilliant. I love this game.

Aguero saved a few lives today.
