Zenit St. Petersburg’s 1-0 win over Anderlecht kicked off Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League action, as the Russian club got its first points of the competition.
Anderlecht remains at one point and at the bottom of the Group C standings. The group leader is Malaga of Spain, which faces second-place AC Milan this afternoon with a chance to grab control of the group.
In Group A, first-place Porto hopes to keep Dynamo Kiev at three points, while Paris-Saint Germain is at bottom-dwelling Dinamo Zagreb. The Arsenal-Schalke match is a battle of the top two teams in Group B, and in Group D, Manchester City, with only one point, needs a win at last-place Ajax this evening in Amsterdam.

Looks more or less over for City. The only way they can advance is by winning at least twice. They can possibly advance on 7 or 8 points, basically needing Madrid or Dortmund to go postal on everyone else. If they get 3 wins (to go to 10 points) they will advance or crash out on tiebreakers.
Jones had a nice run and picked out a good pass to Farfan that directly led to the second goal.
Schalke is just trouncing Arsenal right now. Jermaine Jones has been class since coming on.
Gooch continues to make the bench at Malaga. That is a good thing for the poor guy, right?
1 injury away from being a starter
And nice that he got on the pitch in their win over Milan.
yeah, sweeeeeeet
Dude. Arsenal’s defense is awful.
How are both your centerbacks further up the pitch than your fullbacks?
Great defending by Jones to run down Gervinho and an absolutely disgusting dive from Gervinho. Just a really pathetic exhibit. Throws himself to the ground on the endline in the box without even being touched. Official makes the right call and gives him a yellow for diving.
That ref has had a really good game today I’ve got to say
Yeah at full speed that was a great decision and he was right near the play even thought it was a full break away. Good fitness for the official for sure.
Jermaine Jones on at halftime
Santos is awful.
I hate him so
The Mannone-Santos “defensive” duo makes me want to cry. Just brutal.
Horrible Giveaway by Pepe near the center circle, passes it straight to Dortmund player who prompt looks up and puts Lewandowski through on Casillas, and he finishes it clinically near post. That Lewandowski is a baller, no lie.
Yellow card for Afellay for diving though it wasn’t really either a dive or foul. Farfan does actually dive a minute later and gets the defender booked.
Jermaine Jones is not starting again. It seems that Stevens prefers to start Neustaber as the defensive midfielder in big games.
why oh why didn’t Arsenal buy Dempsey or any number of CL teams like say Schalke or Montpelier or Malaga?
Malaga is flat out broke, and Montpelier just had their first good year.
I wish that the Gunners had purchased Dempsey, but he may not have gotten many minutes with them.
