The Seattle Sounders will take on the Vancouver Whitecaps in another edition of the Cascadia Cup, highlighting Saturday’s Major League Soccer action.
Playing without Chris Wondolowski and Marvin Chavez due to Gold Cup call-ups, the San Jose Earthquakes travel across the country to face the New England Revolution in an cross-conference dual.
Brad Davis and the Houston Dynamo look to get back on their feet when they meet a Philadelphia Union side that has conceded equalizing goals in stoppage-time two matches in a row.
Here is a rundown of tonight’s MLS schedule:
7:30pm – MLS Direct Kick – New England Revolution vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Seattle didn’t capitalize on their numerous chances and Vancouver made the most of theirs. Happens sometimes. They really need Alonso back though, Carrasco just doesnt do it for me at all
Man, sounders have had some great opportunities. Feels like multiple goals are gonna come in the second half, hope there for the good guys.
Kenny Miller is my friend.
And so is Brad Knighton.
Okay. I’m done.
Seriously. ESPN just lost a viewer for this match.
“MLS is the most competitive league in the world.” – Alexi Lalas
Lost a viewer based on its coverage of Messi’s Contractual Obligation Game? Puh-leaze. They should have lost viewers from getting outbid for the road USA qualis while securing all things Mexico. Or losing UEFA CL. Complaining about Lalas is like complaining it’s hot in Texas.
Do you know what the word “competitive” means? MLS may not be the most competitive in the world, but it is near the top in terms of that, at least of the top 50 or so leagues in the world.
I know exactly what competitive means.
2 teams have approximately 50% of the supporters shields in league history. 2. Those same 2 teams have about the same percentage of MLS Cups as well.
Yippee, the middle of the table is competitive! That and every other league.
True but one of those teams is now one of the worst in the league.
Do you?
Competitive doesn’t mean parity. Competitive means how hard players compete. What they are competing for etc.
When you have over half the league make playoffs you aren’t going to have a competitive league? Half the players dog it during the regular season. You have ex-MLS players admitting this (Jimmy Conrad)
Alexi Lalas is honestly making this unbearable. This man is beyond pretentious, thinks way too highly of his mediocre career and more-over his absolute atrocious existence as a General Manager at LA.
Completely ignoring the idea that Lionel Messi is anything but the best player hands down, he is ripping on some college kids and Diego Forlan acting like he isn’t very good.
Forlan would be the best player in TFC history as he exists today. Ridiculous to suggest otherwise.
If Alexi said something and no one heard him, is he still wrong?
lol
I’m not even kidding–Alexi Lalas is ruining this d*mn charity all star game for me. Literally ruining it.
At least Shea has replaced Gatt on the gold cup roster
Meh. He generally did not look very good. But he has promise and could probably use some training and playing time. And let’s be real, Stoke is coming here to play teams like Houston, Dallas, and Philly, followed by Wrexham. This’ll be as productive or more.
Alexi Lalas is the dumbest person in US Soccer media by a long, long way. Where do you even start?
He thinks Ronaldo is better than Messi because he’s played on more teams and other not understandable reasons.
And then there’s this… “You can go to ground and not be touched, its still not diving.”
No wonder this guy was one of the worst GMs in league history.
He once said that the US will do very well in the 2010 World Cup because they have a guy with the first name of Hercules.
Thank goodness the Messi and friends match vs. the World is for charity.
This Messi and friends game is somehow disappointing and entertaining at the same time.
Yeah i see what you mean. I get around this with DVR, watching other leagues (which most are off now). I am watching the Messi Vs friends game now. I will be able to catch some of the Seattle game after i get home from the Dynamo game.
It was a drag the Nats game was late last night was late too. I was crashed out by the 20th minute and missed all the goals.
Thank goodness it’s the NE announcers and not SJ’s on the MLS Live broadcast.
I don’t know the SJ announcers, but as one who listens listens to Feldman and Causey weekly, they must be horrendous to make to say that.
The Quakes announcers are the worst in the history of sports. Maybe the worst in the history of broadcasting. It’s like listening to two drunk fans shouting at the television in a bar. Only not as entertaining.
Dibley is indeed the worst…shrill with no soccer knowledge whatsoever. Gray is just starting out, and as an ex-Quake he is still a huge fan and very shy about criticizing the boys…comes off as a total homer, he needs to work on that. Dibley though is a millstone tied to his ankle.
only MLS game on TV a saturday starts at 11pm. I guess they’ve totally given up in trying to get soccer fans watch the league on TV.
If you’re from the east coast, you could see it that way. For west coast fans it’s an 8:00 primetime special.
Perspective.
47% of the US population lives in the eastern time zone, and another 33% in the Central time zone. MLS tv is primetime for a whopping 14% of the US population. The MLS television setup makes good business sense nowhere.
maybe 11:00 is not too late for the audience that the league is targeting. maybe nbc is more concerned with the product they are showing more than something as trivial as what time it begins. if nbc had to choose one game to show this weekend, can’t blame them for choosing this one
kickoff time is trivial?
8pm on a weeknight is prime time. 8pm on a Saturday night is not. A lot of people watch sports during the day on a saturday and then go out at night.
