A top tilt in the Pac-12 between previously undefeated California and UCLA highlights this weekend in NCAA College Soccer action.
SBI’s No. 1 ranked California was stunned at home last week with a 1-0 loss, the first of the Golden Bears’ season, to a San Diego St. team that improved to just 4-6-4. No. 5 UCLA is coming off of a 2-1 victory over Washington last Sunday. The Bruins must focus on holding off Stanford on Friday night first.
No. 2 Washington has a week to regroup before the team hosts Stanford and California next weekend. Another top team with the weekend off is No. 4 Akron. The Zips were the highest-ranked team to avoid a loss last week. Akron went to Ann Arbor on Wednesday and earned a 2-1 result of Michigan.
No. 3 Notre Dame was also beaten last weekend for the first time this season. The schedule does not let up for the Irish who have to go on the road to No. 7 Wake Forest on Saturday. No. 17 Virginia, the team that beat Notre Dame, hosts North Carolina on Friday. No. 11 Penn State clinched the Big Ten Championship last weekend and goes to Ohio State on Saturday. No. 12 Coastal Carolina’s 11-game winning streak was ended on Tuesday by No. 24 Elon. The Chanticleers are still undefeated in conference play and face UNC-Asheville on Saturday.
