The U.S. Women’s National Team will be staying in Atlanta a little longer than they planned to.
The U.S.’s friendly vs. Russia at the Georgia Dome scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed to Thursday night at 730pm due to the inclement weather that is hitting the area. In addition, the open training session scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled.
U.S. Soccer said the decision to push the game back a day came with the fans’ in mind, as Atlanta is expected to be in the midst of a snowstorm on Wednesday. The federation added that fans unable to attend the friendly on Thursday night could receive a full refund from the original point of purchase by Feb. 23 at the latest.
“After thorough discussions, we decided the best course of action was to delay the match considering the challenges our fans would likely encounter due to the snow and icy conditions,” said U.S. Soccer director of communications Neil Buethe. “Our goal is to always provide the best experience for the fans and postponing the match for 24 hours will provide the 14,000-plus individuals who already purchased tickets with the best opportunity to attend the match”
The Americans defeated Russia in the first of a two-game set this past Saturday, picking up an impressive 7-0 victory at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.

What do you think of the USWNT’s friendly vs. Russia being postponed a day? Smart move? Thankful now more than ever that MLS doesn’t play in the winter months?

Yea, lets play soccer in winter…..Genius! Sepp Blatter, take note between bribes.
Laughable, man. Minor league psych-out stuff. We would’ve kicked their butts Wednesday. We’ll kick their butts Thursday instead.
What a joke. To those who care, that is.
It should be postponed forever. It is simply a waste of time and space.
You don’t mind the delay if you’re hoping for another 7-0.
we beat them 7-0
why not just include the USWNT into the professional women’s league? It would $$$$$$$ you know it. they practically demolish all the opponents and lots of people enjoy the “USA VS” image
when will they schedule friendlies outside the USA? I know more money is to be made here but in places like France or Germany or Scandinavia, the games would still net a profit. probably 10,000 fans out to see.
They brought out 16k to their match in Germany and about 8k to their Netherlands match. Tough to work their schedule with the UEFA World Cup Qualifying which has been going on for most of the last year. They will be at the Algarve again this year (which draws about 500 fans a match).
With chances of snow/rain this week best to give those southerners a couple days to get to the stadium.
I imagine the Russian team is rolling their eyes
actually… Atlanta is about to be hit with an ice storm… freezing rain is expected to dump so much on Atlanta that they expect a coating of over an inch thick on everything by noon tomorrow… so thanks for the smart ass comments… I grew up in the midwest… I know all about bad weather but I don’t care who you are… you don’t drive on sheets of ice…
