The Mexican Football Federation has released the names of six foreign-based players set to feature in its national team’s upcoming friendlies. Among them: Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres.
The Chivas USA forward has been called up for a Sept. 6 match against Chile and a Sept. 9 match against Bolivia.
The 21-year-old will be joined by midfielders Andres Guardado, Giovani Dos Santos and Hector Herrera, goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and forward Javier Aquino as the squad’s foreign based players. The remainder of the squad is set to be announced in the next week.
The pair of friendlies will represent the first senior call-up for Torres, who has scored 14 goals in 23 appearances for Chivas USA this season. Torres has previously appeared for Mexico on the youth level, having been a part of Mexico’s U-20 national team that finished third in the 2011 U-20 World Cup.

What do you think of Torres’ inclusion? How will he fare in his first appearances with El Tri?

Is this the first time that a Mexican player has earned his first cap while playing in MLS? If so, this would be another sign of increased respect for the league worldwide
well, Mexico isn’t calling 4 of their strikers for this, it makes sense that they would give him a chance.
In a rare comments sections we seem to all agree…the kid has earned a look. Congrats Erick!!
Great player, much desirvered.
Glad to see some, not too much, El Tri in MLS
If MLS doesn’t bring him back next year itll be a huge failure and wasted opportunity.
He is eligible to play for the US?
No, he’s not.
Not until someone can find him an American wife anyway.
I’ve so been trying to hook him up with one of my Timbers Army friends.
why would he? The guy is literally from Guadalajara (the city)
I feel a little guilty for liking this rising El Tri player so much. Great talent, good attitude, nice guy. Congrats Cubo, and good luck.
As long as he isnt playing against the USA i will root only for cubo torres because he is one of ours in MLS. MLS product when he was going through rough times
Both good comments above. This is a vey talented player who has given top effort for an otherwise sinking ship– I actually watch Chivas USA games to see him play (sometimes in Spanish). I would love to see him stay (unlikely) or come back to MLS territory some day, though he should not expect much of a welcome when he does so in an El Tri shirt. Good for him, though.

come on, he isn’t a MLS product, he literally spent more seasons in Guadalajara than CUSA (which is basically Chivas B until the rebrand happens)
One of the best forwards in the league. He definitely deserves it
have seen him play a lot this year, he’s killing it
