Americans Abroad: Weekend Preview

Tim Howard Everton 11

One of the most experienced Americans when it comes to playing in England will do battle with one who is still more or less getting his feet wet.

Tim Howard and DeAndre Yedlin are set to do battle on Sunday in an intriguing match-up of U.S. Men’s National Team players. Howard and Everton welcome Yedlin and Sunderland to Goodison Park, and the Toffees are in sore need of a win after failing to pick up three points in any of their previous three games. The Black Cats, meanwhile, are coming off their first win of the campaign, so confidence should be high as they look to jump out of the Premiership’s drop zone.

While Howard and Yedlin are all but sure to start this weekend, John Brooks is not. Brooks has not gotten the nod for Hertha Berlin since Aug. 30, but will be looking to put an end to that streak on Saturday when his club hosts Fabian Johnson and Borussia Moenchengladbach. The match-up will pit two clubs with UEFA Champions League aspirations, as both Berlin and Moenchengladbach stand within striking distance of a top four spot in the Bundesliga.

There is another potential duel of Americans that can take place in Mexico on Friday. Queretaro welcomes Monterrey in a game with playoff implications, and both former U.S. players Jonathan Bornstein and Edgar Castillo could feature for their squads from the start. Castillo and Monterrey currently hold the eighth and final postseason berth, but Bornstein and Queretaro can leapfrog them with a win.

      • Bro, he is not on the radar. Their are a ton of players who would be on here if we counted players who are eligible nut decided not to play for the US or another country. Should we put Adam Henley on here? Your point is still invalid, because he wad never capped by the senior nats.

      • He grew up in the states, played for our youth teams and our domestic league, which is more then I can say for half the ppl on this list.

Why don’t you try validating your assertions based on facts, bro.

  1. Fafa Picult is an American winger whos played 6 games for St. Pauli in the 2nd Bundesliga this year.

If Rhett Bernstein and Cole Grossman are on this list then Fafa should definitely be on this list
