With 44 seconds remaining in regulation, sophomore transfer Gordon Wild scored for Maryland to help give the SBI No. 4 Terrapins a dramatic 2-1 victory over No. 14 Georgetown on Friday night.

Eryk Williamson scored the first goal of the match in the 55th minute for Maryland, but Georgetown’s Achara equalized in the 83rd minute. Before Georgetown’s equalizer, the Terps defense boasted a 199-minute scoreless streak. Wild won it in the 89th minute, scoring his team-leading third goal of the season.

“It was another magical night at Ludwig,” Maryland coach Sasho Cirovski said following the match. “I have tremendous respect for Georgetown. They’ve had a very strong team over the past couple of years and we’ve always come up a little bit short. Tonight we were able to break through and put ourselves in a good place moving forward. I think our team showed some toughness tonight.”

The Terps advance to 3-0 on the season, and welcome the University of South Florida to College Park, Maryland on Monday before heading out for a two-game road swing. The loss drops Georgetown to 0-3 to start the season. The Hoyas will host Virginia Tech on Monday afternoon at Shaw Field.

Both Gallagher and Aubrey lead the Fighting Irish with three goals this season.

No. 6 Indiana scored two second-half goals to top No. 24 California, 2-1, in the second match of the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.
