Pal Dardai has long been critical of John Brooks’ international travel schedule, and it appears that the Hertha Belin boss is ready to take put new measures in place following an unsatisfactory return to the club game.
Dardai says that he will now consider resting Brooks after each international break, citing the U.S. Men’s National Team’s travel schedule as a major negative for the centerback’s game. After starting each of the USMNT’s two World Cup qualifiers, Brooks returned to the Hertha lineup in the weekend’s 0-0 draw with Aubsburg but did not impress his club coach.
“I think I have to think better about him next time,” Dardai said. “He has such a long journey and does not train with us. If you are so tall and travel so much, that is not good for him, and he did not look good out there.”
Brooks played the full 90 minutes in the shutout draw. The U.S. defender has started seven matches this season for Hertha Berlin, which sits sixth in the Bundesliga table.
Only short players that can fall asleep on long international flights for this coach.
Is there a scouting category for this?
It was a shutout. Not like they leaked goals through JB all game long.
He would get more sympathy if he whined only after Brooks’ poor performances for the USMNT.
First of all what a whiner. Guys want to play for their Nat team and it is customary to let them fulfill their dreams.
Brooks was terrible though, didn’t rile anybody up as a must have player that is for sure.
This coach is always complaining about Brooks playing for the US. A lot of European managers rest S.American and N.American players after the international break though. Vidal didn’t dress for Bayern, CP was a late sub for BvB, Yedlin was on the bench after starting over Anita for the last few matches.
African and Asian players have to travel great distances, too. Hasn’t this coach ever coached international players before? What a jerk.
He used to be the manager for Hungary before taking the Hertha top job. I’m guessing Hungary doesn’t travel outside Europe much for matches.
I bet he’s liked these international breaks raising his transfer value though.
I’m sure after the Costa Rica game his value must’ve gone through the roof.
Got em! That’s the only match he has on his resume for the Nats, amirite?
Coach definitely complains less when Brooks has a value boosting game.
