Bjorn Johnsen continued his recent hot streak, while William Yarbrough came out on the wrong side of a Liga MX Liguilla clash.
Days after netting a brace, Johnsen provided an assist in Hearts’ 2-0 win over Scottish powerhouse Rangers. The match also featured U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder and Hearts captain Perry Kitchen, who went the full 90 minutes in the win.
Yarbrough’s result was not as fortunate, as the goalkeeper and Club Leon came up on the wrong end of match against Tigres. Andre-Pierre Gignac’s lone tally was enough to give Tigres the win in the first leg of the Liga MX Apertura semifinals.
Cole Grossman also suffered a frustrating Wednesday. The American midfielder played 45 minutes in Stabaek’s relegation playoff loss to FK Jerv. The two sides will meet again in a second leg, one which will determine Stabaek’s future in the top flight.
Here’s a closer look at Wednesday’s Americans Abroad:
Bjorn Johnsen played 90 minutes and provided an ASSIST while Perry Kitchen started and played 90 minutes in Hearts’ 2-0 win over Rangers.
William Yarbrough started and played 90 minutes while Jose Torres dressed but did not play in Tigres’ 1-0 win over Club Leon. Miguel Ibarra and Luis Silva did not dress.
Gedion Zelalem did not dress in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Southampton.
Cole Grossman started and played 45 minutes in Stabaek’s 1-0 loss to FK Jerv.
Rumor has it Guzan is looking to move to MLS.
i’d really like to see Torres and Ibarra in MLS at this point. Liga MX isn’t working out consistently.
Yeah would make sense for Minnesota to try and bring back Ibarra. Torres is 29 , seems like if he’s going to come to MLS he’d have to do it now.
I think Jose Torres would have to take a pay cut from the Liga MX to the MLS, at 29 he probably has one maybe 2 contract cycles before hes retired. I think his contract expires in 2017 so I think he’ll stay put until his salary level is lower.
yeah i would agree
