An American Abroad appears to be on the move in Europe, making the trek from Norway to Belgium.
U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper Ethan Horvath is reportedly set to move from his Norwegian team Molde to Champions League side Club Brugge this winter. While the club and player have made no comment, reports state that Horvath is set to travel to Belgium on Thursday to finalize the move and a transfer fee and personal terms have already been agreed upon.
Horvath, who joined Molde in the summer of 2013, recently extended his contract to 2018, indicating that the Norwegian side will receive a substantial transfer fee for the talented young American. Horvath started 22 of 30 matches for Molde in 2016, as the club finished 5th in the Tippeligaen. The young keeper also made his senior USMNT debut on October 7th as he kept a clean sheet against Cuba in a 2-0 U.S. victory. He was also named to the 23-man Copa America Centenario roster, but did not make an appearance. Former USMNT manager Jurgen Klinsmann has prevously praised Horvath as one of the USMNT’s “biggest hopes for the future”.
The Colorado native’s move to Club Brugge would be too little, too late for the Belgian side in the Champions League, as they’re set to be eliminated without having earned a single point through five matches. Horvath could make an impact in the Belgian Jupiler League, however, as Brugge currently sit in second through 17 matches, one point behind leaders Zulte Waregem.
Well looks like we have our num 1 till Howard gets better. Guzan is cool, but he needs playing time.
Don’t be surprised if Guzan transfers to MLS in the winter window. Horvath is about to become the last American Abroad Keeper…..
…and he still has a full head of hair.
If Horvath has all of his hair, Arena shouldn’t even call him up. Bald – or balding – is an essential job function of the keeper for the USMNT.

Michel Preud’homme manages Club Brugge. In his hey day he was considered a Top 10 GK. It may be no coincidence but the fraternity of goalkeeping is small. So this could be a very good thing.
Has been the best US keeper for 2.5 years. So sad that Guzan has been starting. He has been atrocious.

Haha cmon guy; This move would be nothing short of catastrophic if he spent the next two years toiling away as the number 2 for Brugge. Looking at their roster, he should have no trouble securing the number 1 spot more sooner than later. He would not make this particular move otherwise. Perfect stepping stone move though, especially at his age.

yeah, whoever runs the editing department needs to be better. Definitely a step up in competition for Horvath, and hopefully he gets the #1 spot soon and runs with it to an even bigger move.
