Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

Germany Soccer Bundesliga

First place in the Bundesliga in on the line on Wednesday, as the perennial title favorite takes on the upstart challenger.

Bayern Munich and Red Bull Leipzig enter the final matchday before the winter break tied on 36 points. Bayern enters the match in first due to a superior goal differential.

Bayern hasn’t lost in the month of December after suffering back-to-back defeats to Borussia Dortmund and FC Rostov in the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League, respectively. Leipzig, the first-year top-flight side, slipped up against Ingolstadt two weeks ago, but recovered with a weekend victory over Hertha Berlin.

The winner of Wednesday’s contest at the Allianz Arena will enter the lengthy winter break on top of the table. The Bundesliga doesn’t resume play until January 20.

There are four other matches in the Bundesliga on Wednesday, including Bayer Leverkusen at FC Cologne.
