In Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final, it was Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund that came out on top to close the season with a trophy.
Pulisic drew the game-winning penalty kick on Saturday, leading Dortmund to a 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in Saturday’s DFB-Pokal finale. The win sees Dortmund win their fourth German Cup trophy while Pulisic sangs his first major professional honor.
The decisive moment came in the 67th minute as the young American was brought down by Frankfurt goalkeeperĀ Lukas Hradecky. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped up and buried the ensuing spot kick, giving Dortmund a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish.
Dortmund opened the scoring just eight minutes in through Ousmane Dembele, giving the favorites an early lead. Frankfurt battled back through a 29th minute goal from Ante Rebic but it was Aubameyang’s second half winner that proved decisive.
Pulisic went 45 minutes off the bench for Dortmund after replacing Marco Reus at halftime. On the other side, Timmy Chandler played 72 minuted before being replaced by Alexander Meier as Frankfurt chased a goal.
With the win, Dortmund closes out a slightly disappointing season with a trophy, ending with a DFB-Pokal win after finishing third in the Bundesliga.
Currently the best USMNT player….the kid is influential and dynamic. Congrats
What a weird-looking trophy. Like a tiny, tacky version of the Stanley Cup.
I think it’s just a socer thing… The World Cup trophy (not even a cup, btw, which is lame) just looks like someone stuck a globe on top of an old dry turd.
Looks better than the giant hubcap they get for winning the league over there
CP22 and Miazga with trophies this year, good for them. Glad to see some Americans contributing
You can add Yedlin to that list, as well as either Danny Williams or David Wagner after tomorrow as Americans winning trophies in Europe this season. Good job by the boys indeed!!!
