Monterrey continues to run through Liga MX with ease, and young American Jonathan Gonzalez continued to be a vital part of that run.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been a mainstay in the Monterrey midfield, and he stepped up once again over the weekend in a 1-0 win over Necaxa. The performance helped seal a narrow victory for Monterrey while locking down Gonzalez’s honors as SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week.
Gonzalez went a full 90 in the heart of midfield for Monterrey, putting in yet another flawless start as a deep-lying midfielder. Monterrey is unbeaten in all seven matches in which Gonzalez has appeared, including six starts.
With the win, Monterrey earned the club’s 20th point from six games while Gonzalez locked down Player of the Week honors over Timmy Chandler, Matt Miazga and Michael Orozco.
What do you think of Gonzalez’s latest performances? Which American stood out to you over the weekend?

huumm.. mixed feelings. I don’t think he’s ready for soccer/football first team play yet.
He’s probably not American enough for Bruce Arena. So he will never be called up by him.
That’s a weird thing to say about someone who openly professes his admiration for Jermaine Jones and lets Fabian Johnson play the position of his choosing. Not to mention he convinced Gonzalez from Dallas to switch to the good guys.
these are the type of comments that show ignorance and a lack of research.
I watched the game this past weekend. I was more focused on how Ceaser Montes was playing, since I play with him a lot in Fifa and he is a top prospect of Mexico. I will have to watch Gonzalez next time he plays for Monterrey.
I think he still eligible to play for Mexico.
Give him a chance with Bradley, we need some possession and creativity and Acosta not offering it.
He’ll get his chance eventually, but definitely not the time to experiment and “try” in important qualifiers.
Maybe experimenting something new would help because all these experienced players are not getting it done
If you get 3 points for a win, how can you get 20 points in 6 games?
They meant 8 games. The “6” somehow got in their as that is their number of wins (obviously, the other 2 games were draws).
