D.C. United is in desperation mode tonight against red-hot Toronto FC, needing a win to avoid a 2-8 start and to potentially save the job of head coach Tom Soehn. Toronto FC will be looking to increase its unbeaten streak to seven games.
Now, read back the last two sentences and imagine reading them in early March. Would you have laughed. Called me crazy? Figured you were in Bizarro MLS? Well, it isn’t Bizarro MLS. Unfortunately for D.C., it is the harsh reality of the 2008 season.
Tonight’s match is about as important as a match can be in May in MLS. D.C. needs a win to stop a losing skid and to squash talks of Soehn’s impending firing.
