Toronto FC at D.C. United: Your Running Commentary

D.C. United is in desperation mode tonight against red-hot Toronto FC, needing a win to avoid a 2-8 start and to potentially save the job of head coach Tom Soehn. Toronto FC will be looking to increase its unbeaten streak to seven games.

Now, read back the last two sentences and imagine reading them in early March. Would you have laughed. Called me crazy? Figured you were in Bizarro MLS? Well, it isn’t Bizarro MLS. Unfortunately for D.C., it is the harsh reality of the 2008 season.

Tonight’s match is about as important as a match can be in May in MLS. D.C. needs a win to stop a losing skid and to squash talks of Soehn’s impending firing.

If you will be watching tonight’s match, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the match.

  1. Terrible penalty given up by Wynne, what on earth was he thinking??? Let DC back in the game. He’s wearing the biggest goat horns for the weekend so far.

  2. Nice comeback. The offense really woke up and created chances. Excellent finish on the first last goal especially. The back line and the goalkeeper Wells still looked a bit tentative on both of TFC’s goals (good execution nonetheless by Dichio) but United kept the possession well and was definitely more of the aggressor throughout the match. Good home support as usual, especially considering the terrible year for United so far. I don’t know if this will be enough to turn things around and save Tom Soehn’s job in the long run but this should take the heat off of him and the team for this week anyway.

  3. DC looked so much better this half then they have all season. Wells should have stopped that second goal. He sucks.

  4. Also having MLSLiveTV problems. The two customer service reps I’ve gotten a hold of are having difficulty remembering they’re fielding calls for MLS, not MLB.

I had this same problem last year on a one-day ticket, and now that I’ve bought hook line and sinker into the rest of the season this year, I’m peeved that they can’t get this to work. It can’t be that difficult.

  5. Wow lots of pressure from DCU pinning Toronto back for the last 10 minutes now. No real clear-cut chances yet though.

    Anyone else here???

  6. And it did. Spectacular run and cross from Jimmy Brennan, and Dichio heads in a gimmie from about 2 feet. 1-0 to the TFC!

  7. Pretty tentative first 10 minutes from both sides… Looks like a nice day, so hopefully the match will pick up soon as well…
