Sargent, Wiley eliminated from EFL Championship promotion race

Josh Sargent and Caleb Wiley both suffered respective EFL Championship defeats on Friday as the league season pushes towards its ending.

Sargent and the Canaries suffered a 5-3 home loss to Portsmouth despite the U.S. men’s national team forward scoring once in the match. The Missouri native helped Norwich City tie things up in the first half but  Portsmouth would never let things slip away after holding a 3-1 halftime advantage.

He’s totaled 47 goals in 130 appearances for the club.

Caleb Wiley and Watford suffered a 2-1 home loss to league-leading Burnley.

The USMNT left back played the full 90 minutes in the match, watching as two of his teammates earned red cards. Moussa Sissoko was shown a second yellow card two minutes after the Clarets moved into the lead.

Edo Kayembe was also sent off in the loss.

Wiley, who joined on loan from Chelsea earlier this year, has impressed in his seven appearances.

Whether or not he stays at Vicarage Road long-term remains to be seen, but Watford is reportedly interested in acquiring him for a second-straight loan spell.
