Manchester United has released the 23-man roster for its upcoming North American tour that includes a stop at Reliant Stadium in Houston for the Major League Soccer All-Star game.
Wayne Rooney, not surprisingly, is not included in the squad, nor is Gary Neville, who suffered a calf injury in a recent training session.
Those accompanying Sir Alex Ferguson to this side of the Atlantic Ocean are: Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, Edwin Van der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Rafael, Fabio, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher, Chris Smalling, Darron Gibson, Nani, Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda, Mame Biram Diouf, Tom Cleverley, Ritchie De Laet, Corry Evans, Ben Amos and Gabriel Obertan. Javier Hernandez will meet up with the team a day prior to the All-Star game.
The Red Devils will play Scottish side Celtic in Toronto on July 16 before facing the Philadelphia Union on July 21 and the Kansas City Wizards on July 25. They'll be the MLS All-Stars' competition on July 28 prior to winding up their tour at Chivas de Guadalajara on July 30.
Are you planning on seeing Manchester United during the tour? Happy with the players included on the roster? Think the MLS All-Stars can win the match in Houston?

Going to the game in Philly, hope I get to see Van der Sar play
Would’ve been nice to see Evra play for a real team…
Hope UTD win.
Red Bulls reserve squad couldn’t beat the Harrisburg City Islanders…
I’d really want to see the da silva brothers starting as the wing backs. These kids are gonna be stars one day.
the red bulls reserve squad could beat this team…
Seconded! Well said Tommy.
Thank you Tommy. I agree.
This is a solid lineup. Maybe I’m a biased as a Man Utd. fan, minus Mame Biram Diouf, Tom Cleverley, Ritchie De Laet, Corry Evans, and Ben Amos, the majority of the team is a group of fine players. Macheda is one of the most promising young-Italian forwards, Obertan is a future star, and Danny Welbeck is one of their hometown academy products as well as a U-21 England international. The rest of the lineup is basically the 1st team. Why is anyone complaining? We should be so lucky to have so many BIG name European clubs having friendlies on our soil. It wasn’t always this way.
Gary Neville is a wanker (repeat x3)
No Rooney? I guess I’ll have to save my “Rooney – The White Pikey” banner for another day.
Tickets for All Star game…CHECK
cant wait to see Kiko and Scholes play.
whoopty friggin doo
Ha, yeah, that’s why I’m sure. I doubt he could tell United he didn’t want to go for a reason like that. He’s getting a rest like every other player that was in the World Cup. I don’t think he’s been fully fit since he got injured during the Bayern Munich game…
When we get to a point where these tours don’t make a ton of money for MLS teams and whatever team is touring noone will be happier than me.
why no rooney? is he afraid of america?
OMG!!! Fabio quit modeling to play soccer for Man U. That is the biggest surprise.
And there go the ticket sales!
Pass me that!
Can you get Berbatov to autograph a hairnet for me?
Giggs, Fletcher, and Scholes would be a pleasure to watch play, but that’s much more for aficionados than the general public. And it would be a thrill of a lifetime to see a Scholes red card in person!
Sure, without Rooney what have they got?
Oh yeah Nani etc etc…each worth about a full mls team payroll.
MLS should blow them out (sarcasm)
Valencia’s recovering from an ankle injury/surgery. Also, even though Nani’s on the 23-man roster, he won’t be playing as he recovers from his clavicle injury.
Not to be a downer, but this could be one of the most underwhelming squads to face the MLS All-stars (and this is coming from a United fan!).
the only players I’d have ANY interest in watching are Nani (held out of WC due to injury so who knows what he’ll be like) Wellbeck and I suppose it will be interesting to see what has become of Macheda after his breakout year in 08-09
No Valencia?
The MLS All Stars should beat this squad handily
Oh no, Gary Neville’s not coming! I was going to follow Man U around on their tour, but not if Gary Neville isn’t coming.
I’m going to be in Houston for the all star game!
I’ve never been on the Beckham bandwagon, but it would have been cool to see him suit up with the All-Stars against Man U.
yay
