A group of three teams have separated themselves from the pack in D-2 — Austin, Rochester and Vancouver are tops in the league in points and look assured of a playoff spot.

The surging Rhinos might be the hottest of the bunch at the moment, overtaking Austin in the standings with a fifth straight win Wednesday night. However, due to the Aztex having four games in hand, Rochester remains mired in the second positions of the D-2 power rankings.

The Rhinos surge continued Wednesday night in Maryland, as they beat Crystal Palace Baltimore by a 2-0 score, to extend their lead to four points in the standings. In other action, Carolina came from behind against Miami to win 2-1 at home.

Here's a look at this week's power rankings:

1. Austin Aztex (12-3-5)

  1. Ives, Do you know why FSC stopped showing the USL games? I remembered that they used to show their games every Friday night.

Recently, they started to show USL Breakaways again. I loved watching the Puerto Rico Islanders my favorite team on this Division. What’s up with that?

  3. Travis–How could you fail to mention that Uncle Joey Saputo ripped into the Impact players in the press recently, calling guys out by name??? He questioned their heart and commitment.

That alone should drop them to 13th in power rankings.

I wish that Saputo was making the trip to Baltimore this Saturday so that I could heckle HIM–I can’t stand that blowhard or the Impact.

  4. Nice win for the Islanders last Saturday over an elite division team. Now my Bayamon boys have to go and take the three points from St Louis.

Baltimore had a very nice win over Carolina last Saturday. Last night was a setback. the Baltimore boys have been very competitive with Montreal this season. Saturday is doable. Hopfefully we have gotten the own-goal bad luck out of our system for the rest of the season.

The playoff are not that far away for Baltimore. There is a lot of soccer left to play.
