Montero brace lifts Sounders to fifth straight win

When Sigi Schmid decided to rest some starters on Wednesday night against FC Dallas, it looked like the red-hot Sounders might just slow down.

Fredy Montero came off the bench and made sure that didn't happen.

The Colombian striker came on at halftime with the score tied 0-0 and scored two goals just three minutes apart to lift the Sounders (7-1-1) to a 2-0 victory in Frisco, Texas. The victory pushed Seattle's winning streak to five matches.

FC Dallas (3-5-3) started the match without several key starters as well, including Brek Shea and suspended duo Blas Perez and Daniel Hernandez, but still managed to contain a Sounders side that started the match without Montero and Osvaldo Alonso, among others.

The match turned mid-way through the second half when Montero delivered his second and third goals of the season to send Dallas to their fifth match without a victory.

Back-up Seattle goalkeeper Brian Meredith was outstanding in goal for the Sounders, recording five saves in the shutout.

The Sounders will look to win their sixth straight when they face West-leading Real Salt Lake on Saturday, while FC Dallas
