The U.S. Women's national team shook off an uncharacteristic slow start to put on a show for a sold-out crowd at PPL Park on Sunday, as Alex Morgan showed off her outstanding form in a 4-1 rout of China.
The Chinese opened the scoring on the night, temporarily quieting a raucous crowd in Chester, Pa., but Morgan responded with a quality curling goal to tie things up before a China own goal two minutes later gave the Americans the lead for good.
Morgan added her second goal in the second half off a beautiful run and finish off a long pass from Christie Rampone. Abbie Wambach capped the scoring when she ran onto a long throw-in from Morgan and slotted home from close range.
The star of the show was Morgan, who scored multiple goals for the fifth time in nine matches.
Before the match, U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage announced the 18-player roster for the Olympics, with forward Sydney LeRoux the only player named to the squad who wasn't on last year's World Cup squad.
What did you think of Sunday's match? Excited to see Morgan and the current U.S. team at the Olympics?

they dont look good…they are hideous
Yes, they still do. Boycott Nike
good win! i love morgan! haha
Don’t get the over-reaction about the new uniforms. They’re different, sure, but they look good. The stripes remind me of the stripes on Old Glory, so it’s not like Nike just threw some wacky design out there.
This gives us a distinct look as opposed to these dull solid colored uniforms every other team wears.
Geesh. It’s just a shirt. LOL
I was at the game and I have to tell you, once we scored to bring it even, China was deflated. I think they might have only had 1 legitimate attacking opportunity for the rest of the match after that.
Those new Nike “uniforms” look even more ridiculous on the women than they do on the men!
‘Multiple goals for the 5th time in 9 matches’???
The only question I have is why Pia didn’t adjust sooner and slot Alex in as automatic starter earlier. Morgan’s got game.
I agree that the US defense was a problem, both in distributing the ball from the back, and the actual defensive play.
Quite frankly I am glad the defense gave up that goal (yes it got by Solo, but it is hard to blame her for the precision shot) because if they had a clean sheet then it would be easier for them to gloss over their defensive problems.
Hopefully Pia will be working hard to address these defensive issues. We don’t deserve to win the gold medal playing that poorly on defense.
I watched that games and am a bit concerned for our Olympic USWNT. The Chinese tika-taka control offense and a swarming upfield defense caused lots of problems & WNT mistakes. A team like Japan or Koreas that can keep up pressure the entire game may be a match for the US.
Well… the new kits don’t look so bad when the women wear them.
good for the women!
didn’t see the game but those new unis look even worse on the Women!
GO USA!!!
