An overzealous challenge by Victor Palsson earned him a second yellow card and left his New York Red Bulls a man down and facing the very real prospects of seeing their four-match winning streak snapped in Montreal.
Rather than giving up a goal down a man, the red-hot Red Bulls scored a winner, as Dane Richards pounced on a loose ball and blasted home the vital finish in New York's 2-1 victor over the Impact at Olympic Stadium.
The match was marred by some questionable officiating decisions in the first half, which saw both teams awarded questionable penalty kicks. Bernardo Corradi converted his, earned after a phantom foul or handball call on New York. Kenny Cooper buried the Red Bulls PK for his 10th goal of the season, which came on a penalty a harsh hand ball call in the area.
The second half was a fairly even game that looked to be a draw before Palsson was sent off for a second bookable offense. Rather than capitalize on the man advantage, the Impact gave up a late goal as New York countered quickly and Miller worked a dangerous cross into the area that Donovan Ricketts punched into the path of Richards, who buried the finish to give the Red Bulls their first five-game winning streak since 2003.
The victory keeps New York (8-3-1) in first place in the East, one point ahead of D.C. United. The loss dropped Montreal to 3-6-3.

Wasn’t the stutter step PK outlawed a couple of years ago? Cooper clearly does it there. Did they give up enforcing that rule?
RBNY need to off-load Rafa, buy out Temu Tainio and pick up two quality players in the June transfer window.
I believe this good run will give NYRB the courage to dump Rafa but who would pick him up?
Oh, Sack… (cue audience sitcom applause, and “wah-wah” sound effect)
He is a man’s man and has a history of the team as a ball boy! He is 100% Metro! Not like those ENERGY DRINK PEOPLE!
Down with energy drinks! Up with PROPER FOOTY CULTURE & MATT KASSEL!!!!!!!!!
You’ve always had a man crush on Matt Kassel.
How DARE RBNY cut homegrown players like Kassel & Hot!
Matt Kassel is TEARING UP the USl & no one watches scooby Doo reruns at home better than Sacir Hot!!!
RBNY is an energy drink! THEY HAV NO FOOTY CULTURE!!!
Yes! With vinegar! And a healthy side of PROPER FOOTY CULTURE LIKLIKE TORONTO OR THE UNION!!!!!!
Lade has been tenacious and hand full for any opposing player who plays on his side. It is no accident that the game winner came from his pass down the left side. He is not only a beast but his passing is excellent and he plays a smart game…

I prefer fish pies…. Just saying.
How can this be????
Hans & Soler are jokes!
Attendance isn’t good enough!
RBNY is corporate footy !
We need to be more like Toronto Footy Culture and eat crisps before the games! And meat pies!
Two trophies and an unbeaten streak of about 37..hundred games. Folks will credit the players before they credit the front office. For nearly two seasons now this team has needed a steady GK, a steady CB, and a DP that does more than sell Red Bull and get suspended. Because it’s taken this long to happen most folks are gonna chalk this up to luck than the FO And coach having their poop together.
Dude, please…
A call up in 4 to 5 years is jumping the gun?
Only a trophy can save their jobs or street cred. word on the streets RBNY fans still think the hans backe viking army was a total joke.
This Red Bull team could be for real. The defense has held up and they have managed to get the goals they need despite the injuries. Imagine if they manage to sign two good players in July…. Anyway, Roy Miller did look offside. I guess a bit of luck helps too.
Are Hans and Soler making a comeback?
Yeah replay show’d it.
Henry is going to come back and ruin this. 🙂
This is getting ridiculous.
Anyone else think Roy Miller was offside on the winning goal?
Compare the goals Cooper scored when Henry was there to the goals he has scored since (including this PK).
Jumping the gun a bit?
He ran around a lot.
Thierry who?
Lade was a complete beast at LM.
4-5 years down the road, he would be a great LM call up for the USMNT.
