It took Wil Trapp five games in his first season as a professional with the Columbus Crew to record a point, but he couldn’t have picked a much better evening to do so.
Trapp found a streaking Federico Higuain down the right flank with a perfect through ball before Higuain sent in a top-notch goal to finish off the New York Red Bulls, 2-0. Trapp’s assist and 90-minute performance made him the choice for SBI MLS Rookie of the Week.
Trapp beat out Toronto FC’s Jonathan Osorio, Colorado’s Dillon Powers and Seattle’s defender DeAndre Yedlin for this week’s honor.
