The U.S. Men’s National Team that travels to Panama will look a little different than the one that beat Jamaica on Friday night.
Following the Americans’ 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory over the Reggae Boyz at Sporting Park on Friday night, U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann told reporters in his postgame press conference that some roster moves were going to be made ahead of Tuesday’s final qualifier vs. the Canaleros. Klinsmann brought in Clarence Goodson and Brad Davis and summoned Chris Wondolowski as an injury replacement for Eddie Johnson on Thursday.
“We’re going to discuss that tonight. Obviously we have Clarence being here, Brad Davis and so there will be a couple of changes, not many, but a few changes that we’re going to make,” said Klinsmann. “We need to check with our medical department to see for example what’s exactly the case with (DaMarcus Beasley, who was substituted in the second half on Friday because of a hamstring issue) or maybe another one has a knock. We’ll discuss that.”
Klinsmann gave no mention as to which players could be replaced, but midfielder Jermaine Jones seems to be headed back to his club after playing 90 minutes on Friday night. Jones tweeted his thanks to U.S. fans for their support and also wished his teammates good luck in Panama on Saturday morning.
What an awesome night yesterday!!! Big thanks to the fans and good luck in Panama Boys! @TBoyd91 http://t.co/xbfK45fgJq

Who do you think Klinsmann will call in ahead of the Panama match? Who (besides Eric Lichaj) would you like to see get selected? Confident that a younger/less experienced U.S. squad can close out qualifying with a win in Panama?

The Galaxy must need Donovan really badly. Things must really be that political. Keeping Dempsey at home apparently didn’t help the Sounders. No only that, Dempsey has now a shoulder injury. Will the Galaxy do equally as badly having Donovan sent back with a bad ankle or something? Chances are he is going to get worse, and then what. By the way what about Arena? Is he really that great? The Galaxy is someone’s pampered pet. So they get what they want.
Doesnt panama.need to.win like 4 to 0 to qualifyand mexico loose 2 to 0. I dont get what’s happening. Honduras needs to win in jamaica no matter what. So its between panama n mexico right but who has more of a chance.
A 1-0 Costa Rica win and a 1-0 Panama win will get Panama 4th place
I seriously agree with sending our C or D team so Panama can qualify. Mexico is going to have a hard time in Costa Rica.
Torres, Specter, Williams, Morales.
Here are the official changes:
Besler, Donovan, Howard, Jones depart. S. Johnson added.
Field the u-20 team, so Panama qualifies
I second that!
freddy is already in brazil waiting for the world cup. let him play
Don’t think we have to replace Jones, just play Goodson in the back and move Cameron up. Cameron is way better than Jones at DM, anyway. He just is. Maybe JK will figure that out in his absence.
I think we will see Mix and Beckerman as our CM
Sounds like agood plan.
if he is replacing Jones, JF Torres would be the obvious choice. maybe he could bring in Corona too.
if DMB has to go too maybe Chris Klute could get a look.
Jurgen doesn’t sound like he wants any new faces (guys that haven’t already played in the Gold Cup or a Qualifier) but the lack of depth at LB might force a new guy in..
Bring in Klute! Rapids have this weekend off anyway
Releasing Donovan so that Arena doesn’t shoot JK next time he sees him?
What else is there to say other than Arena is a d*ck.
many other things frankly, like you’re wrong 🙂
does Terrance Boyd still even play for the NT? what’s he been up to since the world cup?
I think we will see Boyd as a sub in the Panama game, he was exchanging high fives with JK in the Jamaica game.
Lichaj, Williams, corona, Torres, ream, Shea, Spector, maybe even arriola are possibilities. If klinnsman wants to be mean to the mls teams, o’niell, Dempsey, Magee, John, okugo, and agudelo are possible.
I wouldn’t expect to see O’Neill, Magee, John, or Okugo before January, but I’d say most if not all 4 are good bets to get a January Camp look.
Agudelo’s not out of the question, but he hasn’t been in JK’s plans since his last spell of injuries (about a year). Depending on how far the Revs go in the playoffs and depending on when he joins Stoke, we could see him in the November friendlies. I’d expect to see Boyd get minutes (since JK bothered bringing him in).
I’d also expect to see Ream, Lichaj*, Danny Williams, and Shea in November since the friendlies will be in Europe.
Corona and/or Torres seem the most likely players to get called in since they’re already in the same hemisphere.
*I lied about Lichaj. It’s never safe with JK as coach to expect Lichaj to get a call up.
If anything I think he brings a couple ypunger kids from MLS and Mexico. He brings them in for training and if they impress they get to dress not play. I could see Gill or the kid from Colorado make a guest appearance.
How about a little Tony Meola? I’m hearing that the #3 GK spot is still a wide open race.
Then Eric Lichaj.
Jack Mcinerney. You broke him, you fix him klinnsman!!
hah- have experienced the same thing w/ Wondo after a return from camp. good luck with that.
agreed. he was on a scoring rampage until he got called up to ride the bench in the Gold Cup. what a waste
Jones needs to go ahead and get his knee cleaned up now.. he just doesn’t look right. He didn’t play bad, didn’t play good, got the job done, but I bet his knee is bothering him more than we thought
Yes, he should get the surgery now so he has more time to recover before the World Cup.
Freddy Adu!!!!! just kidding.
Lichaj… I jest, of course
