After spending the past month picking up victories over some of the league’s top sides, the New York Red Bulls were brought back to earth by Robbie Keane and the LA Galaxy.
Keane led the way for his side, scoring a pair of goals as the Galaxy dismantled the Red Bulls, 4-0, Sunday at StubHub Center.
The Irish striker set the tone early by burying an audacious chip up and over goalkeeper Luis Robles in the eighth minute after juking past defender Roy Miller. Keane then bookended the Galaxy victory by scoring a true forward’s goal late by finishing his own rebound after wiggling past a few defenders.
Keane’s skill and eye for goal led the way for the Galaxy, earning the forward recognition as SBI MLS Player of the Week. Keane beat out a strong list of contenders that included teammate Landon Donovan, FC Dallas forward David Texeira, Seattle forward Obafemi Martins and Vancouver midfielder Pedro Morales for this week’s honors.
What did you think of Keane’s play against the Red Bulls? Who impressed you most during MLS Week 30?
