The New York Red Bulls went into the weekend looking for points to secure playoff position, but faced a tough test in the Western Conference-leading Seattle Sounders. But the Sounders, fresh off winning the U.S. Open Cup, were out of gas, it seems, and fell 4-1 on the road against the Red Bulls. With a win over FC Dallas, the Los Angeles Galaxy moved up to a tie with the Seattle Sounders atop the West in a Supporter’s Shield race.
In Americans Abroad action, Timmy Chandler earned his first start for Eintracht Frankfurt e.V., his hometown club. It marked his second appearance for the Eagles, playing to a 2-2 draw against Schalke 04.
In USL Pro action, the stage is now set for first-year expansion club Sacramento Republic FC to host the championship against the Harrisburg City Islanders after both sides edged out close wins this weekend.

NY’s last 4 games include 3 wins, vs DC, vs KC, & vs Seattle. Yes, Seattle rested up. But that’s still impressive. NY gaining steam going into the playoffs after being mediocre all year, while everyone else paying attention to the leaders. I like. Yes we aren’t really this good. Nothing to see here…
Yeah, they’ve been playing pretty well lately. Sure, Seattle rested a few guys but RBNY dominated from start to finish. They can’t control who the other team plays. MLS Cup is more about who is hot at the right time and the best team doesn’t always win so hopefully they can keep it up.
Also, great atmosphere at RBA on Saturday. Wish it could be like that more often.
They rested 7 or 8 starters depending on who you call their first choice midfield. That said New York can only beat the team that the sounders decide to put out there, and they did that convincingly.

Seriously though, I am very excited for next weekend. It’ll be the last time I see Thierry Henry play the beautiful game in person. Would not miss that for the world.
